Poovar Island is a small place where the river and the ocean meet up where river on one side and ocean on the other side. A small island with ocean waves and luckily it was a High tide day and the waves were just getting aggressive. The way to reach to this place is via a boat and to reach... More

Must see place. Only thing is the boating charges are high. Try to collect information about the actual charges else you might get duped like me :) I paid INR 3000 for 2 people for 1.5 hours. The good thing was the whole boat was only for us but at a price.

We went in boat to Poovar Island. It was scary especially just before the Sea. I went with my wife and 1.5 years old daughter. We enjoyed the trip very much. After reaching the Island it was amazing. Its must see. Recommend to wear life jackets. We hired a boat and roams around the backwater. The price ranges from 1500... More

Pity the beach so dirty - the tourist area on beach is dirty and the locals walk past rubish without any attempt

We started for the boat ride a bit late in Neyyar river to Poover island. We were nine of us, and we got a deal of a round ip to island in 2.5k which is pretty reasonable. The way to island was through the narrow water stream, and the surround ecology was wonderful. Some good bird species are found in... More

Nice place to see. Unlike beaches in Goa not so crowded. Not away from Capital city Trivandrum. Well connescted with roads. Govt. buses available from all near by towns.

Poovar reminded me of our local Sunderbans (people who're from West Bengal must be knowing the analogy I'm drawing between these two). It's a coastal village with golden sand virgin beach and flattered by soothing backwaters flowing beside it. Several number of local huts and coconut trees partially immersed within backwaters make the view lovely. You can stop for few... More

This is wastage of time and money. This trip cost same as Munroe Island trip but not worthy at all. Munroe Island is 85 km from Trivundrum and 24 km from Kollam. Kerala tourism operates daily trips to Munroe Island. If you want to experience real backwater canoe ride go to Munroe Island and strictly not to Poovar. If you... More
