After visiting this lake I understood the true meaning of the slogan "God's own country". The place looks like straight out of Heaven. It is difficult to describe the pristine beauty of Periyar Lake in words. Hence attaching some photos. Let them do the talking.

If not for the thousands of people who come here every day in vehicles that pollute the place, this is probably a beautiful place. The authorities have done well to cordon off the lake. If you are a nature lover, I recommend you go else where since you cannot avoid the crowds here. On holidays and weekends one must stand... More

The streamlined operations on part of the forest department make boating in the Periyar lake an experience of a lifetime. While nature has abundantly showered its bounty on the place, the forest department ensures that it is maintained as pristine as possible. The place is neat and clean despite heavy footfall, and the boating tickets are issued by name and address of the... its a great place to go. Take the tamilnadu tourist boats as they are bigger and give you more time. The kerala tourist boats go faster and cant do any good photography. You may get lucky to see some bison or elephants at the most and birds.

A must visit in Thekkady. But do walk to the boat ride point for it is amazing to read all the trees bearing their botanical names. There is a fake elephant statue which is a highlight. The boat ride, beyond a certain point is boring, but there are so many different birds!

The only reason we went here was because one of the treks we signed up for had its starting point here. The lake and the surroundings are pleasant but not worth the visit just for that. The boat rides may appeal to people who are out for a good time but they are long and noisy and likely to repel... More

The Periyar lake is really beautiful. It's calm water coupled with the silence of the forest around it makes it an enjoyable watch There is a boat ride through the Periyar lake organized by KTDC. The boat ride is 90 minutes long and it can get really boring in between. These days, your chances of spotting wild animals during the... More
