It is rear that you see Wild Life but still worth it visiting it. one of the beautiful place. There is a Lake resort also. Nature lovers can also go for that.
Limited transportation to Periyar Lake is worst side of the sanctuary. 2 Km walk to lake is very clumsy and tiresome. Huge crowd gathering to sail in lake. Old type auto launches carrying 50 people, are deployed for one and half hour ride. During the ride we can hardly see bunch of deers and no other animals visible. Fee for... More
Having stayed at the KTDC Aranya Nivas, getting tickets for the boat cruise wasn't much of a hassle. Try to get the early morning or late evening boating for the chance encounter with the animals and the pleasant weather. Also get seats on the upper deck of the boat for a better view. We saw a few deer, bison, wild... More
Rain started pouring down as soon as we onboarded the boat. Luckily, we had a set of likeminded fellow passengers and we together kept all the curtains open and got soaked in the rain! Rain stopped before we completed the first leg and sunshine dried us up on the return leg. Mesmerising Mansoon experience. After all, being in Thekkady during... More

You have to queue for these but Guests at Aranya Nivas are guaranteed tickets on KTDC boat. Getting to see wildlife is upto... More

People pushing and shoving like animals. Look, I know its India, I have been here... More

The Periyar Lake really worth a ride. The Lake is expansive and one should visit atleast once in their Lifetime. Boating in this Lake is purely enjoyable and you will get tons of oxygen to keep you going for long. Good experience indeed.
We were advised that the first ride starting at 7:30am has a better chance of spotting wild life. So we reached the gate of the park at 5:45am only to find a queue of cars. The park gate opens around 6:00am. You have to take a ticket for the car, plus for the passengers. Ticket for the car driver is... More
