A microcosm of last five hundred years of Kerala history with Vasco de Gama's original grave, and many other grave inscriptions from Portugese, Dutch, and British eras. Now undergoing remodeling.

It was in this rather unasuming building that Vasco de Gama was buried. He was later dug up and taken back to Portugal but there is nevertheless significant historical importance in this building which many people simply fail to see. It is very plain and very much of it's era - nothing flash but with old punkkahs hanging from the... More

This is a small church situated in the Fort Kochi area of Ernakulam district of Kerala, where the remains of Vasco Da Gama was earlier buried. Only the tombstone can be seen these days, as he was removed to Portugal, his birthplace , earlier. Shabby , ill-kept interiors looks a bit out-of-place, considering the historical significance of the place, but... More

this church is located just across the road from the Chinese fishing nets and was just as a normal church would be, nothing interesting, and the upkeep was also not upto the mark

Well it's famous because Vasco de Gama used to be buried there...past tense. He's gone but there is a tacky little sign showing you where he used to be. It's quite a small church and I feel the information board could have been a little bit better too. The shapes within the structure are nice but I do think the... More

Interesting old church with some interesting features. We walked from the fishing nets and it was a pleasant evening stroll.

An old church in old Cochin. Famous mainly for being Vasco da Gama's original burial place. Shame the Portuguese took the body back to Lisbon. It's still used for services so don't be surprised by 'modern' technology inside!

The church where Vasco da agama was buried and later the mortal remains were taken to Portugal. One could see the tombstone inside the Church. The Church looks very elegant externally however the interior could be better kept.

I wanted to attend the church where Vasco da Gama had been buried (he was eventually returned to Portugal). The outside is most attractive, but the inside has suffered through the introduction of modern stuff: fans, microphones etc. The original punkahs from colonial times remain but are not now used. The explorer's tomb is still there too, and we enjoyed... More
