Peter took us on a private tour of the backwaters and to a small village to experience the life of villagers. His knowledge was very extensive and it turned out to be a unique experience. I am so glad that I choose this formula of the small canoe thru the marshlands rather than an overnight houseboat. We would have missed... More

A cruise in a well furnished houseboat with a serving of palate tickling dishes as you cruise thro' the glistening backwaters is a sublime experience. It really provides a mosaic on the daily lives of the people who live along these backwaters e.g sending their children to school by boat .

Our afternoon spent on a Cochin houseboat was the highlight of our visit to this city. The boat was clean and comfortable and the crew was very welcoming. The lunch prepared on board was the best we had in India. A highly recommended activity.

Waiggom backwaters boat trip: relaxing experience with transfer from and to Kochi fort. It is a good 5 hrs on boat doing the backwaters which are roughly 200km long (well you don't get to do all 200 in 5 hrs). The guide was very informative and knowledgeable - we visit 2 small islands where calcium is made and on the... More

We actually went overnight so be very careful of the mossies which are prolific as its on water. The backwaters atee like a glorious canal ride.

We didn't visit the Dhobi Ghat in Kochi with a tour but were taken there by our driver . Not to be missed and much harder work than washing at your local launderette . It is hard physical work but at least , at certain times of the year you are guaranteed perfect drying weather . Ironing the clothes is... More

About a 1.5 hour bus ride into the country were we boarded a tour boat, rode through a congested area and then on to a lake and river filled with houseboats and tour boats. The views of the boats, people, houses, rice fields, water were very interesting. Lunch was a buffet at a resort on the lake. There was a... More

Sorry guys, this tour wasn't that interesting for an Australian person at least, simply its people living along a river or waterway in India, the boats aren't modern and the place is pretty dirty, not really our favourite place

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip with Peter the owner of Salmon Tours. The owner is your guide and you get to experience the backwaters and canals in a quiet non motorized setting, seeing several families going about their day to day life. The setting is spectacular, Peter is so very knowledgeable and the experience with a family was great. We highly recommend... More
