Picturesque canal boats.

We actually went overnight so be very careful of the mossies which are prolific as its on water. The backwaters atee like a glorious canal ride.

We didn't visit the Dhobi Ghat in Kochi with a tour but were taken there by our driver . Not to be missed and much harder work than washing at your local launderette . It is hard physical work but at least , at certain times of the year you are guaranteed perfect drying weather . Ironing the clothes is... More

About a 1.5 hour bus ride into the country were we boarded a tour boat, rode through a congested area and then on to a lake and river filled with houseboats and tour boats. The views of the boats, people, houses, rice fields, water were very interesting. Lunch was a buffet at a resort on the lake. There was a... More

Sorry guys, this tour wasn't that interesting for an Australian person at least, simply its people living along a river or waterway in India, the boats aren't modern and the place is pretty dirty, not really our favourite place

We thoroughly enjoyed our trip with Peter the owner of Salmon Tours. The owner is your guide and you get to experience the backwaters and canals in a quiet non motorized setting, seeing several families going about their day to day life. The setting is spectacular, Peter is so very knowledgeable and the experience with a family was great. We highly recommend... More

Of course backwaters is synonym with Kerala. Of course lots of people opt for an overnight stay on a big houseboat. And of course these big houseboats take them only to wide and deep enough canals, of course they're engine-powered so they make noise, create pollution, clog the waterways. And of course the travellers don't get to see the "real"... More

I booked a half day trip with Peter from salmon tours.com. From Kochi Holiday Inn it,s about thirty minutes driving. Peter will show you the small side arms from the main river (really great nature), a visit by some nice people living over there, having a traditional lunch and just feel the good company and hospitality from all these folks... Visited backwaters near cherai zone where sea n backwaters come the closest. Not the best place for backwaters. Visit alleppey for that. Enjoy the city n beach if you want in kochi.

We took the backwater tour hoping to see some exotic wildlife. Unfortunately we only saw a water snake and a few tropical fish that I've kept in my aquarium at home. However the visit to the Spice plantation was educational as was the visit to the rope makers who use coconut fibres and deftly spin a very strong rope. Later... More
