We thoroughly enjoyed our trip with Peter the owner of Salmon Tours. The owner is your guide and you get to experience the backwaters and canals in a quiet non motorized setting, seeing several families going about their day to day life. The setting is spectacular, Peter is so very knowledgeable and the experience with a family was great. Of course backwaters is synonym with Kerala. Of course lots of people opt for an overnight stay on a big houseboat. And of course these big houseboats take them only to wide and deep enough canals, of course they're engine-powered so they make noise, create pollution, clog the waterways. And of course the travellers don't get to see the "real"... More

I booked a half day trip with Peter from salmon tours.com. From Kochi Holiday Inn it,s about thirty minutes driving. Peter will show you the small side arms from the main river (really great nature), a visit by some nice people living over there, having a traditional lunch and just feel the good company and hospitality from all these folks... Visited backwaters near cherai zone where sea n backwaters come the closest. Not the best place for backwaters. Visit alleppey for that. Enjoy the city n beach if you want in kochi.

We took the backwater tour hoping to see some exotic wildlife. Unfortunately we only saw a water snake and a few tropical fish that I've kept in my aquarium at home. However the visit to the Spice plantation was educational as was the visit to the rope makers who use coconut fibres and deftly spin a very strong rope. Later... More

We had booked a day tour by boat which is organised by the Kerala Tourism Development Corporation. This is a reasonably priced and well coordinated tour and is recommended as most arrangements are well planned and the tour gives us an authentic backwater experience to the user. The tour consists of a bus ride to a boat boarding point in... More

We hired a private boat for 8 people. The views were magnificent all day. There are so many different things to look at. The day passed very quickly. From the moment we got onto the boat the food flowed, from cashew nuts to curried prawns and 5 different types of fish. We had beers and wine delivered from the hotel.... More

We had a three hour tour with an auto rickshaw driver called SUDHI, as recommended elsewhere on TripAdvisor. He was knowledgeable, spoke good English and took us to some interesting places. His number is 8606181352. Recommended.

We, myself, my wife and our adult son & daughter, were on kochi on 27-10-2013, sunday. We started our day with Chinese fishing nets at around 10 AM in the morning. Being a holiday there was a considerable crowd, and since it is our visit to kochi, we were very eager to see how the net operates. Half an hour... More

I was on vacation with my dearest wife in June, 2013. A paradise on earth. Munnar to Thekkady was filled with awesome siights such as tea plantations, herbal gardens, cool mountains, huge waterfalls and most of all the huge elephant ride in Munnar. The House Boat stay in Allepey was the crown of our vacation. We got to buy huge... More
