Recommend more than one night, we did two. Take mosquito repellent too. Just wonderful and get ready to take lots of photos. Source a good company (there are a few or two) and worth paying a little more for better quality. Ours was bottom of the range, but we still had a wonderful time. Mostly people go for one night... I had an amazing trip along the backwaters. The skies were a spotless blue and the entire journey was ridiculously postcard pretty. My husband and I took a personal overnight houseboat. I enjoyed spending the night as it gave us a chance to dock and take a walk along the side village (my husband thought it was superfluous). Be careful... More

Whist the Backwaters are beautiful, if you choose to go on a houseboat, double-check it first, as many are uncomfortable. We literally had a wooden board to sleep on. However, the sights themselves and the invitation into the way of life here is magical, as is watching the sunset from the bow of your boat. Some great resorts around here,... More

This is something that has to be done. We cruised the area ariound Alaphuzha and it was quite busy with rice barges. We had a small one to ourselves for aday cruise and thoroughly enjoyed it. SO much so we decided to go back a second time. This time we took a bus to the other side of the lake... More

What a wonderful trip. The trip was one of the highlights of South India. Highly recommended as a day trip from Kochi - those who spent the night on boats told us it was not worth the effort. More

The back waters are beautiful and with out a doubt well worth the trip but you need to choose your boat and trip carefully and be prepared to pay 3000 to 9000rps per person depending on how long you go in for and what you get. Try and get one that has canoes so you can go down some of... More

Very recommend to do this tour,in spite that you sail just till twilight, and then boat docked for night But we go out and strolled on village,to see people on their each day chores.Very relaxing, with good food. Bedroom with en suite bathroom was small but convenient,AC work from 9PM till 7AM,and was enough for good sleep. More
