This place is around 40 kms from bangalore. I visited this place over weekend with my family. We reached around 11 am and it was very good experience watching classical dance. The place is kept natural and devoted to culture. Overall you can talk whole place in 30-40 minutes Must to do: 1) Watch the practice done by classical dancers.... More

On a morning, take a 45 mn taxi ride to go to Nrityagram, a danse village set 35 km from Bangalore. Architecture is superb..danse stage is in the open and classes are given.., best dansers of India are training there and are often ready to discuss with you. I have visited Nrityagram three times in last couple of years and every single time it takes me to a world very different and far from busy city life. Time slows down to the rhythm of Indian classical music and dancing feet! A very beautiful experience for anybody with love for dance and music. The property is a treasure not... More

Nrityagram, combined with Taj Kuteer... makes for a good outing on a weekend. Get to see the influence of Kelucharan Mohapatra & Protima Bedi all over Nrityagram, where you have some world class Odissi dancers... in the gurukul tradition... you can attend their performances with prior confirmation on time/attendance. The place is very serene, and has beautiful green environs... Taj... More

We spent a few intense hours at Nrityagram watching living greats in Odissi rehearse, teach, and go about their daily lives. We met the new generation of students, the musicians, and administrators who all make Nrityagram the Odissi gurukul it is. We are a group of dance aficionados, for whom this connect with dancers we admire from the audience, illuminated... More

This is a unique concept ! Protima Bedi's dream ... The focus is on Gurukul type teaching. The outreach to fresh talent is inspired. Partly thru classes for village children from whom credible international talent has been found. And by visit to the city for teaching. The directors are quietly focused. And respectful of the value of being independent and... More

Nrityagram is located in Hessarghatta (on the outskirts of Bangalore). To get there, you will need to drive through some scenic "wilderness" for about an hours time. The drive was enjoyable since the roads are good. Its a no-pollution area away from the city madness with farm fields everywhere . On reaching Nrityagram, even before we went into the reception... After downloading the map from the Nrityagram site and getting directions from the internet we drove off to spend a day there. Would recommend you just look out for the Hessargata signboards to turn right. The right turn at the landmark of the so called black glass Reliance building is what used to be, it can be very misleading because... More

This is an actual gurukul and a must visit place. Route is awesome with well constructed roads. It was amazing 1:30 hour drive from my place to the Village. The Village is well constructed and its also an amazing place for photography. Though you cannot click photographs while dancers are rehearsing. There is Taj resort as well along with this... More

The Nrityagram visit was really worth the drive..... First the drive itself out of the city and into the green "forest" itself was great - absolutely zero pollution. The dance village was very nice - a gurukul and we were fortunate to also see the dance classes - the practise sessions were as good as a real professional performance :-)... More
