Owner description: Basavangudi is one of the few areas in Bangalore that have retained its old-world charm. A residential area with quaint homes, leafy roads, markets and temples, a walk here can take you back in time. Always buzzing with activity, Basavanagudi buzzes even more feverishly before festivals. There are numerous restaurants here, some institutions in themselves. This is a good place to feast on idlis (savory cake), dosas (savory pancakes) and the famous filter kaapi (coffee).

It is very popular area for shopping in Basavanagudi. The renowned Bull temple is also in this area. And the famous Vidhyarthi Bhawan is also near to Gandhi nazar market. FYI, In Kannada, “Basava” means “Bull” and “Gudi” means “Temple”. So, Basavangudi got it's name from the Bull Temple.

This is a crowded part of South Bangalore with some old temples like the Ganesha and Bull temple, eateries like Vidathri Bhavan and Halli Thindii and tourist places like Ramakrishna Mutt and Bugle Rock. Be prepared for crowds and cows on the street. Best visited by foot as parking is an issue.

Temple is small. But it gives a good feeling of the culture. Big nandi is one of it's kind. You can visit once. Maintenance should be improved.

Take a stroll around the Bull temple road, there are some nice temples in the vicinity. The Bull temple is a must see and spend some time in its backyard and observe the quiet surroundings. There is a rocky park nearby that is also a must visit.
