Basavangudi is one of the few areas in Bangalore that have retained its old-world charm. A residential area with quaint homes, leafy roads, markets and temples, a walk here can take you back in time. Always buzzing with activity, Basavanagudi buzzes even more feverishly before festivals. There are numerous restaurants here, some institutions in themselves. This is a good place to feast on idlis (savory cake), dosas (savory pancakes) and the famous filter kaapi (coffee).

Basavangudi is one of the oldest residential areas of Bengaluru (Bangalore), around 100 years old and still retaining the old charm with finesse. A lot of greenery, with parks spread over and around the area, the old flower market of Gandhi bazaar and the lip smacking Butter Dosa joints in the area make it all a lively place all day... More

Otherwise known as Nandi, the Lord Shiva's transport is carved from stone, bathed and bowed to daily. Amazing craftsmanship for such an old structure. One almost forgets the Lord this symbol is there to protect!

I practically live next door, and for me Basavangudi epitomises the soul of Bangalore. With plenty of temples, parks and fabulous eating joints, Basavangudi is a Bangalore's heritage at its finest best.
