Riding the shikara on Nigeen Lake was one of the nicest experiences in Srinagar. It was calm and so-so serene unlike Dal Lake which was far too busy for me. With stunning mountain views one could simply sit and stare for hours on end without getting bored.
Nagin lake is away from town so it is comparatively clean. However while having shikara ride tell your shikarawala that you don't want to buy anything else he will take u lil in the lake and then you will be fixed with one or the other vendor who comes and sells on the boat. Beware the material is fake at...

We stayed on nigeen lake, which is connected through a narrow channel to the dal. We chose nigeen over dal after going through the reviews on tripadvisor. When we went there, we found that it is ideal for the peace of mind. However, you can only go for a shikara ride when there is no strong wind. There are numerous...

If you are looking for a quiet getaway in a houseboat, this lake is where you should be. The lake is very quiet and serene. The surroundings are scenic. Having said that, the lake is not very clean. Though there are initiatives of keeping it clean, there are way too many plants growing in there, and you would see nothing...

Nigin Lake is really very quit and calm and at the same time beautiful. No hawkers hence complete privacy. Excellent view from house boat, combination of water, hills, greenery and Ice. Very rare in india.
It's not Nagin Lake but it's called Nigeen lake. It's the preferable lake for a stay in houseboats for most of the tourists. When you sleep in the houseboat at the Nigeen lake, it feels like silence is pounding on your ears. One absolutely can't hear anything in the night.
It's not that clean though. It's only because of the...

Still waters run deep they say and the stillness and the comparative peace and serenity of Nageen lake is calm and soothing unlike its more colourful and noisier Dal Lake. Fewer houseboats here but more expensive than those on Dal Lake. But I prefer the liveliness and busy-ness of Dal Lake.
The lake is very peaceful and for a stay one should definitely choose Nagin Lake over Dal Lake. But be very careful about the houseboat you choose.
