Natural Abundance of Fresh water and Salt water has made that Sanctuary a retreat of a number of migratory birds. Its advisable to take a guide along. The Khijadia Bird Sanctuary, off the Highway Between Jamnagar and Rajkot is a Bird Watchers Paradise.

We are not expert bird watchers but this place was a real treat. We went early in the morning (for sunrise) and again mid-afternoon (for sunset) - spending nearly 6 hours there in total. Our guide Nitin was brilliant and we saw many lovely birds and some animals. We were able to walk around and overall it was a great... More

This is indeed a paradise for any bird watcher. Inorder to fully understand the significance of the various species of birds present, I would say a guide is a must. There is a brochure available at the entrance but that was not helpful as it was written in Gujarati which I couldn't read. An English version of the same would... More

I loved the many different types of birds we saw (aquatic) but unfortunately most were out of my camera range. Still it is a joy to see them healthy, happy, feeding, roosting, squawking....getting on with life. This place is not signposted very well. When we got the permits to enter we were given vague directions and we took the wrong... More

This is a place to watch Migratory birds, and it's not a typical tourist attraction, not a picnic spot. So, one should be mindful before visiting this. You have to like nature, birds, photography - at least one of them. Birds arrival depends on level of water, which depends on rain during monsoon. Picking the right part & track also... More

Khijadiya. It has been of tremendous value for us. We were extremely allured by it. When we were introduced to Khijadiya by professionals on the campus, many questions popped in our minds. After clarification, our curiosity and anxiousness raised exceedingly. Also, we analyzed exceptional birds and their behaviors. The purpose that shared among us was to visit this lively and... More

Dear bird lovers we have an alluring sight for you. Khijadiya. We have our vibrant NRIs coming from all over the world to this captivating land in the migrating season. The weather is really pleasant and welcoming for these birds, and that is when you will be able to see the divergence of these birds. Our eyes gleamed radiantly when... More

The best time to be at this sanctuary is by 6am in the morning to be able to see the flight of the Pelicans. The last flight takes off by about 7am and you don't want to miss the 200-300 pelicans fly over your head to the feeding spot. I believe it's quite wonderful during sun-down as well. The guides... Another hidden gem in Gujarat - Khijadiya is a very beautiful place where we could see hundereds of migratory birds in their natural setting . It was practically free of tourists , so we had a wonderful time bird watching. On the way to the watch tower on each of the birding paths we can see birds really close to... More
