we were with restless kids, so didn't stay long; a good camera, birding lens and lots of patience and of course the rght season would am sure be well worth the visit for avid birders
The Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary is a mere 25 km from Jamnagar. It is an excellent option for serious birders as well as amateur nature enthusiasts. With both, salt water and fresh water expanses, a huge variety of birds throng the sanctuary.

I was here as part of Jamnagar Bird-a-thon 2012 by Saevus-Gujarat Tourism. My experienced is mixed. A visit to this place will make you how good a birding heaven this place is. But we saw Millions of cranes, so if you have not seen them along the roads this is the place to go for them. Many Nilgai and some bee eaters, spoonbills, greater flamingos, advocates, nice morning walk. We had seen better but I would still go again in another time.
A good place to visit at sunrise. 30 min drive from Jamnagar city. There being no food stalls & courts, it is better to be equipped with water bottle, snacks. Private vehicles can go inside the sanctuary. Be careful about the vehicle sound to avoid the birds flay away.

However, I did not expect that they would allow cars inside the sanctuary...

I would appreciated having known that guides (with binocs!) are available - nobody mentioned this, and the "office" is poorly managed, if friendly. All the same, I observed sunrise in December, was beautiful, and other visitors were very friendly. Well worth a visit, even from a non-birder.
