You need to book a tour of this place before visiting. We had taken the afternoon tour. The morning tour shows textiles whereas the afternoon tour shows pichwais or religious paintings usually placed behind the idol at Nathdwara temple near Udaipur. The halls are not well illuminated and I wish the guide would be more friendly.

housing a wonderfully displayed collection of textiles and a few Indian paintings. The tour leader and assistants project a very stern demeanor which can be off putting. In such a beautiful place they should learn to smile.

This is not a museum showcasing "textiles" - it is a collection of religious tapestries housed in a former mansion, kept in rooms that are not well lighted. Many of the tapestires (faded, dull) show the same religious themes. Completely underwhelmed.

Fabulous collection of textiles but the Museum needs a makeover and the explanations are inadequate, so read before you go!

The Calico museum in the house of Sarabhais in Ahmedabad offers a conducted tour for a maximum of 20 tourists (on prior booking) in the morning and a religious tour for 16 in the afternoon. The officialese and timings are unchanged, but the quality of the tour has certainly deteriorated since the one we took in 2009. The audio-visual capsule... More

We had been told to visit this museum but they have a long waiting list. They only take ten tourists morning and afternoon. If you are visiting from abroad how is this reasonable what a shame.

This is one of those rare gems where the entire experience is perfect. from the limited number of people allowed access each day, to the conducted tour and the actual exhibits that showcases the best of Indian textiles and fabrics. This is very much a 'live' museum since the sarees, and other fabrics breathe here. The displays are nothing short... More

Wonderful stuff on display but there were no explanations or labels and a lot was not able to be viewed. So appreciation of what we were looking at was pretty superficial. A missed opportunity.
