On the plane to Ahmedabad, my aisle mate raved about the Calico Museum. I had heard similarly wonderful things from my coworkers in Mumbai, but upon arriving for the Museum for the second time (we were denied entry the first time - note: the hours are very limited, and you must reserve a tour spot), we were highly disappointed with... This museum has a good collection of different textile artifacts. During my visit to India with my friends I went to this place and got the chance of entering (luckily) as the daily visitors are limited to a specific number. I am a fabric expert and was amazed by the products being manufactured here. The management of this place was... More

I would have loved to have been able to take more time to see the really beautiful and extensive collection, as the tour is a bit regimented - although I do understand that the exhibits are very valuable,... It was worth the extra effort to arrange a visit. The guide took their time and it was fascinating to see all the steps.

The entrance to the museum is restricted and they allow only a small group of 15-20 people a day. The timings are strictly followed. It is a unique and rare collection of woven and embroidered textiles from Gujarat, Rajasthan, Orissa and a small selection from Tamil Nadu. To say that the pieces are stunning and amazing would be an understatement.... More
