It was awesome visit, they are preserving textile & apparels from 300 years. Indian textile culture is well presented here... If you are textile art & textile engineering lover.. this is your destination. Must visit

Thirty-one years old, but it is one among the foremost textile museums in the world and an important Indian institution. It is located in the city of Ahmedabad in the state of Gujarat, and is managed by the Sarabhai Foundation.

The lack of phones/cameras immediately lowers this rating 5 experience to a 3! There are no art descriptions or thorough explanations, so I feel like we walked through looking at art with no understanding of what it was. I was also constantly in fear of knocking into something. But, I completely recommend everyone do take the two hours to see... More

I had very high expectations of the Calico musuem. I felt the guide could have been more interested in explaining things to us. She seemed like a school teacher apprehending us for everything and not open to questions. I am sure other guides would have been better and if so my experience would have been better

The museum was founded in 1949 by the industrialist Gautam Sarabhai and his sister Gira Sarabhai. Ahmedabad at that time had a flourishing textile industry. The museum was originally housed at the Calico Mills in the heart of the textile industry. visit this place if you have business related to textiles

This visit was completely free. No tips or donations were expected. Refreshing in this day and age. The museum is created by a wealthy Gujarati family in their own Haveli and we believe our guide may be a family member. Whilst I quite warmed to her eventually I think she could be a little intimidating to some. Reminded me of... More

There is some inaccurate information around on the Calico Museum. The ONLY access is through a booked tour starting at 10.30 or 3.00 pm (different 2 hour tours). You cannot get past the gate at any other time. The tours are run strictly, no deviations allowed and you are watched constantly. This is a tragic situation for those who want to... More

The textiles section of the museum has some beautiful exhibits. The focus is on the Gujarat region, though there are collections from other areas as well. The re-installed havelis around the campus are worth a look. Prior booking is essential to visit the museum. My bag, including phone and camera, were carelessly taken and dumped by the security personnel at... More
