This is, rightly, an extremely famous collection housed in a beautiful old building. You don't have to have a specialist interest in textiles or artwork to be impressed with the collection and I rate it very highly. There is only a (free) guided tour and as others note, it is very rushed and lights are quickly extinguished and doors slammed... More

What an excellent depository of textiles from many Indian locations! Shame we were rushed through the rooms due to the humidity controlled conditions but it was a feast of items and information! It was a perfect start to my textile tour in Gujarat! For lovers of textiles a must visit! Our own textile tour guide gave us extra valuable information.

We reached the gates at 10.15 am sharp as advised by other friends for 10.30 tour. They were unusually busy (15 people!!) but accommodated the two of us due to cancellations. The museum houses a treasure trove of Indian embroideries, silks, woven tapestries,in a beautifully restored house. Neither the content nor the manner of tour guide did any justice to this... More

It is a private museum of Sarabhai family, spread across a huge property. Their textile and painting collection is huge and priceless - but their attitude is very rigid. Guided tour can be more hospitable.

On the plane to Ahmedabad, my aisle mate raved about the Calico Museum. I had heard similarly wonderful things from my coworkers in Mumbai, but upon arriving for the Museum for the second time (we were denied entry the first time - note: the hours are very limited, and you must reserve a tour spot), we were highly disappointed with... This museum has a good collection of different textile artifacts. During my visit to India with my friends I went to this place and got the chance of entering (luckily) as the daily visitors are limited to a specific number. I am a fabric expert and was amazed by the products being manufactured here. The management of this place was... More

This is well worth a visit, particularly for anyone interested in textiles as I am - but my husband also enjoyed it. I would have loved to have been able to take more time to see the really beautiful and extensive collection, as the tour is a bit regimented - although I do understand that the exhibits are very valuable,... wonderful display of textiles dating back to India's 18th century and earlier. Essential to make prior reservations.
