This is one of the 4 large sites from the 5000 year old Indus Valley Civilization that have been excavated, and the only one in India. (other 3 are across the border in Pakistan) Just to stand there - amidst the remains of a whole township which was alive all those millenia ago- is an undescribable experience. And the details... Went to Dholavira for an overnight trip after crossing the Little Rann of Kutch (which is another story :) ). Great roads from Rapar. Reached around 3pm, and put up at the 'Eco Resort' which has been taken on lease from the forest department by an enterprising gentleman. Had booked 2 AC huts on top of a hillock. (Mostly good... There was no town around Dholavira, it was merely a marker on the map. There were two lodges and a shop in the vicinity of the Harappan ruins and that was it. I did not see anything else for a few kilometres. Normally, I review hotels I have stayed in on TripAdvisor to avoid clutter in the travelogue. However, there... More

My review is only about Toran Resort. This is the only option I thought to stay if visiting Dholavira. But when I was there I could locate another resort that had hoardings all around Dholavira, named Dholavira resort or something, but I couldn't note down the number. Once you are in Dholavira, do inquire about this other resort also. Toran... More

Dholavira (and similar Harrappan cities) beckoned ever since we were initiated to the Indus valley civilization in our History text books in schools. Finally ticked it off from the "To Do" list this new year. We visited (Me, wife and 5 year old daughter) this ancient site on a special day 1st Jan 2015. 1. Travel: On road from Little... More

We visited Dholavira as a part of our trip to Kutch last week. It is in the middle of the Great Rann (desert) with very little habitation around it. There is an excellent road connection from Bhuj, the main city of the Kutch area, and it takes less than 4 hours. The facilities for overnight stay are limited- there is... More

3 hours approx drive from Bhuj, Dholavira is the place where the ruins of ancient civilization dating back to 5000 years ago were found and excavated by the Indian government in the 90's. It is the very famous harrapan civilization that we all learn in our school textbooks. There is a fossil museum which has some bits and pieces of mud... More

One must witness the spectacular sun-set on White Rann from the Karni temple premises, which is approx 10km away from the Toran complex. Also visit the Fossil Park, the excavation site & museum. Despite so many negative reviews on Toran Hotel at Dholavira, I personally found the place worth staying, and yes I stayed there for 1 night with my... More

Went to visit this place with great expectations. Was a little disappointed at how the place is presented and maintained. There were not many signboards to be ell us about the place and facilities were poor. Maybe it will improve in future. However the place does give us an insight into the town planning skills of the great Indus Valley... More
