If you are at all interested in geology, volcanos or just fancy some nice scenery and a hike/horse ride, then this is not to be missed. Sierra Negra and Volcan Chico provide outstanding views. S. Negra is one of the largest volcanos in the world with a 14 km caldera, very impressive to see, and V. Chico is like walking... More

Though it was a 6 hr trek to volcan chico, the awesome views were worth the effort. Bring plenty of water, sunblock and camera. More

If you are reasonably fit and prepared to walk a total of 16 kilometers (10 miles) then you will enjoy this. If you are looking for a 5 minute walk from your tour bus / car this will not be a good experience. If you think that you need to ride a horse up then forget about doing the second... More

We coordinated our hike to Sierra Negra / Volcan Chico through our hotel, Hotel Albemarle. We knew it we were in for a long day, and were picked up early in the morning and taken for about a 30 minute ride to the trail beginning. We expected to have horses for a significant portion of the hike, and were told... More

If you have hiked other volcanos in other countries, this won't be that special. However, if you have not seen how the lava flow can change and carve the landscape, then it would be worth seeing. Take PLENTY of water, wide brim hat, long sleeves &/or sunblock. Bus to the starting point, (bathrooms there didn't flush, no paper, no water... More

The Sierra Negra hike is 18km, round trip. Be prepared. It is a realatively easy hike. We are a family of 5 (2 adults, 3 tennagers). If you have young kids, I would forget it! The hike in starts off slow and boring, but when you reach the Caldera (second largest in the world) it truly is amazing. Imagine, just... More

Don't get me wrong, it is great. It is beautiful. It even is impressive, with it's 10km wide crater. But in the Galapagos, sea life is much more impressive, for one. Also, living all this time in Quito, I can do hikes and trails every day if I wanted. I was told it was an easy hike, and it was.... More

Just came back from a trip of Galapagos and the hike to Cerro Negro was one of the highlights. Our group was lucky as we had perfect weather, not to hot on the way up and perfect views once we reached the crater. The crater is quite a sight, its just huuuuuge. You definately should hike a bit further to... More

We were told by one of our guides on Isabela that the tourism industry there began to boom after the 2005 eruption of one of the active volcanoes on the island. This volcano is a 45 minute drive and a 45 minute walk out of town. To reach the volcano, you have to drive through parched black lava lands, past... More
