Off the main roads you will find this beautiful piece of tranquility. The river flows fast, but is warm enough to swim in - with care; the birds and butterflies are beautiful, and we whiled away a very peaceful afternoon sitting on the rocks by the river. There are many adventurous activities available, but we chose to relax. The accommodation... More

We enjoyed the stay and had three nights here. We were situated a long way from the reception but so what as we were there to enjoy the river and open air. They should offer fresh fruit as an alternative but the service was mainly fine, the girl running the activities was a bit abrupt hence only four stars. however... More

We were travelling in Colombia on a birding trip with Ecoturs. Rio Clara was included in our trip, because there is a cave on the opposite bank with Oilbirds, which fly out at dusk. In fact, there is a site close by where you can see Oilbirds in a large cave during the day, so there is no need to... More

If you wanna explore Colombian ecotouristic places where rivers are amazing you must come to Rio Claro. You'll find yourself in the middle of tropical forest, calm and the relaxing sound of the river. You can find different activities to enjoy from the most calmed (hiking tours) up to spelunking, rafting and canopy. The cabanas have an spectacular view, and... More

This is a stunning natural reservation and a must see if you are in town and of course if you are looking to spend some time in the middle of nature and out of the city and its normal rhythm. The facilities are simple but very well kept, the river is absolutely beautiful but gotta be careful since its really... More

Fabulous accommodation set high up in the canopy of the rainforest with open walls so that bug blue butterflies literally fly through the room in the morning and colourful birds perch nearby. The accommodation is basic, but the sounds and sights of the rainforest make up for this. The food is good, not much choice but filling and healthy. The... More

The river itself and cave tour were really enjoyable, the guide although he didn't speak English was very nice and luckily we had someone in our group to translate. I would highly recommend the activities they were the perfect amount of adventure without being too terrifying and the staff were very helpful. The food was simple rice and chicken but... More

We stayed here mid week to go caving. I thought it was absolutely stunning. We did have a problem getting there though. The bus we got from Bogota took 8 hours instead of 5 and we got to El Refugio at 8pm. It gets dark in Colombia at 6.30 which should be noted when going to El Refugio because you... More

The location itself is very beautiful, however it is not worth the money you pay. You can get similar experiences elsewhere for less money. The food is very basic and the accommodation had no electricity when we stayed. the staff are not overly helpful and even rude at times, like talking amongst themselves when they knew you were waiting. If... More

We booked a day and night during the week to avoid the crowds. We recommend booking one of the higher rooms at the very end of the complex. A night in an open air room under the stars is amazing! I was worried about mosquitoes, but didn't see one. The hike through the cavern is something not to be missed.... More
