I love the balconies with the hanging flowers! Every Colombian I ever met before traveling to the country told me I needed to visit Cartagena. Now I know why. It is an impressive city. The walled city has so much architecture, so much history, it's amazing.

The walled city is totally colonial looking. Most houses, building, churches have been renovated and look beautifull not to mention the flowery balconies.

Many locals prefer the Bocagrande area as evidenced by the number of condominiums and hotels catering to "turistas nacionales", but if you are a visitor to Cartagena, the walled city is the best place to stay. Many of the big hotels are outrageously priced but there are a many places available through internet booking sites like airbnb. It's a very... More

The opposite was the case and it was great fun to meander and explore the walled city at a leisurely pace. Lots of little restaurants and cafes, interesting shops, different architecture... More

The colonial wall are impressive, they surround the city, and according to Claudia, our guide, 11 kilometers were built originally, that is about 9 miles.

Restive, restorative and beautiful the hotel we stayed at was out of town in a quaint village. Located on the beach it was quiet and scenic.
