The word "ancient" in china is used instead of "traditional". There is nothing ancient in this place. Most of it is built in the last 10 years and is fresh concrete! The oldest parts are some wooden structures that are about 100 years old. Even to American/Australian standards this is not ancient.

China has thousands of "old" towns or villages, some more distinctive than others. While the buildings here in Cicheng are reproductions, they are authentic. One of Cicheng's benefits is that it was a county seat with a governor so there are several different compounds to see a generally close area ( but there is about 10 minutes walk between sites).... A nice place to wander around on a March afternoon. Visit places like the residence of Ren Shigang who established Wu He Kitting Mill in Shanghai. Visit the County Examination Hall where feudal Imperial Examination was held. It epitomizes Chinese culture and the Imperial Examinations and serves as a historic and cultural reminder for us and our descendants to better... More

We were disappointed to find out that most of the buildings are replicas that we built ofter 2002. Having said that, they do a good job making the environment look old and there are a few small houses that have been preserved. We were there in August and it was a ghost town ... The black paved streets radiated heat.... More

This is a very nice place to walk around, away from the hustle and bustle of big cities in the area. The Confucius Temple, old Chinese mansions, the Taoist monastery and the scenic lake at the northern end of town are all nice additives to strolling around the ancient streets and alleys. It's a shame though the entrance ticket only... More

Statues at Cicheng ancient town are as real as are at Madame Tussaud's museum of Shanghai. Amazing to know how well organised and systematic Chinese were in the ancient times. A place worth visiting if you go to Ningbo, a city where more rare earth magnets are made than in any other city of the world.

This is a great place to visit to get an insight into the way the Chinese lived in the past and even in some areas how they live now. Cicheng Ancient Town is open about 8.30am to 4.30pm and the price of admission is cheap, about $1.50 Aussie or 80RMB if my memory is correct. If you spend long enough... More
