If you are in the area worth the trip from Urumqi. Went in march, before the crowds with ice still in the lake. Very tranquil

This beautiful lake is in the pine woods with a view of snow-capped mountains in the middle distance. It makes a great contrast with the arid plains near Urumqi. There are some picnic tables among the trees, with a souvenir shop nearby.

The bus ride to the lake and the thousands of tourist and local sellers at the bus parking are very annoying. So for a short daytrip the beauty of the lake is not enough to compensate the irritating aspect of Chinese mass tourism. It is surprising how lazy most tourist are, they just get out the of the bus walk... More

I have never seen anything so beautiful in China, really amazing . The colours of the water, the clean park and surroundings and beautiful mountain backdrop. You have to see it to believe it. About 11/2hours drive from Urumuqi, it's well worth the visit. Very clean facilities and a good restaurant halfway up the mountain where you eed to change... More

China has many lovely sites and plenty to see all over this huge territory. However, Chinese tourists can be very loud and do not mind crowding...so the result can be somewhat...overwhelming sometimes,

Despite the fact that it is hugely touristic, Tianchi Lake is a nice day trip in the mountains from Urumqi. The view on the mountains is superb and the pagoda is inspiring.

The whole place is a natural wonder. Beautiful lake and mountains around it. Make sure you spend the night here, as there are too many tourists during the day. The evening and the early morning are the best times to hike around. The yurts are basic but decent for one night. The food is good, the local mushrooms are fantastic.... More

Really lovely place to visit. Close to Urumqi. Spectacular but busy. Ticket prices now high to enter the park but the price includes transportation up to the lake. Highly recommend taking a picnic and sitting by the lake away from the crowds.
