We visited the lake as part of a Wendy Wu tour. So we travelled from Urumqi to the lake and back. The buses stop at a tourist centre some way away where you then catch a shuttle bus. The lake is beautiful with snow capped mountains. But having travelled in Europe a lot there are several more stunning and larger... More

It is very beautiful as many travellers will tell you. To enjoy more, 1. don't take the boat - it is a waste of time and 100rmb, you can't enjoy the view with so many people on board. The boat trip is also very short, does not even cover the entire lake. 2. beware of the temple scam - the... More

Its very beutiful and natural scenic place in Urumqi. Its a musy visit place inUrumqi. Very unique and when you are going here be prepared to spend at least 12 hours here. As the traffic and checking will take 2 hours to clear due to Army and police check post. But its worth a visit if you are in Urumqi.... More

Snowed 3 days before we arrived, it was still white and chilly on the day we visited. A small bus took us to the waist where we had lunch, fresh and yummy. Another 20-minute ride on the zigzagging mountain road to get to the top. And we walked for 20 minutes in a forest trail to the lake, it was... More

Although they do try to steer you into buying something with their convoluted busing scheme (get off, buy, get back on) it is worth it. There are boats you can tour around on, trails to hike and a picnic area. You can also buy some local food behind the bus drop off. Pack a lunch and enjoy the view.

The heavenly lake is at a fine location amid snowed mountain peaks which is a spectacular sight anywhere in the world that has similar natural features. If you are someone who has been/lived at the scottish trossachs or the alpes or Canada this is not a sight particularly interesting or worth the visit. In addition the entry fee to the... More

This beautiful lake is in the pine woods with a view of snow-capped mountains in the middle distance. It makes a great contrast with the arid plains near Urumqi. There are some picnic tables among the trees, with a souvenir shop nearby.

The bus ride to the lake and the thousands of tourist and local sellers at the bus parking are very annoying. So for a short daytrip the beauty of the lake is not enough to compensate the irritating aspect of Chinese mass tourism. It is surprising how lazy most tourist are, they just get out the of the bus walk... More
