By far the most tourist packed attraction around Urumqi and highly overrated. It's worth more for witnessing Chinese mass tourism than for the attraction itself. Hoards of tourist buses (that you need to exchange three times or so) take you to the lake, there is good signage in English almost everywhere, and then there is the lake itself, which is... More

This is the most beautiful place I have ever been in my life. Don't by any means take a tour or a bus to or from any part of the park. We hired a driver to drive us there from Urumqi. Near the entrance to the park there are some uyghurs offering to rent out there tents, nightly rate is... More

I took the 9:30 shuttle bus from People's Park to visit this. Once we got there I counted two hours since the time you finally get to buy the ticket to get to the lake (12:00); basically you have to queue up for a big bus twice - there's a stop in the middle for you to waste time seeing... More

The Kazakh maintain a resort at the heavenly lake, in Tianshan Tianchi National Park, situated at an elevation of 6266 feet. This lake lies on the north side of the Bogda Shan range of the Tianshan Mountains, about 30 kilometres (19 mi) south of Fukang City and 45 kilometres (28 mi) east of Ürümqi. (Bogda is a Mongolian word, meaning... More

WARNING- unless you want to spend 12 hours on a coach tour do NOT follow the advice of The Lonely Planet Guide. The guide recommends getting a bus from outside the people's park which costs 50yuan, what it fails to mention is that you will set off at 9.30am but won't return until 9.30pm after visiting many 'shopping' sites, eateries... We took the 9h30 tour bus from north entrance of People's Park (60 CNY). It seemed easier and cheaper than taking a taxi to north bus station - bus to Fukang - bus to entrance. It's an 2h30 minutes drive in traffic to the entrance. The "guide" we had in our bus was quite informative (if you understand Chinese). We... More

Nothing special at all, just a small lake that is crowded and touristy. There is much much better (and cheaper) in Xinjiang.

Tianchi lake was one of the highlights of my trip in Xingjiang - it is as beautiful as it looks in the photos! Unfortunately the local government has transformed this beautiful lake into a big tourist attraction, charging 190RMB to all visitors! They have buses going from the visitor centre to the lake and they have built boardwalks all around... More
