Years ago we were at the old Shandong Museum, which, was NOTHING like this one! The museum showcases the history of the Shandong area from the Neolithic to more modern times. The exhibits are well designed, altho a bit short on English. They certainly deserve a few hours, however. The museum store was somewhat disappointing because there were very, very... More

We had a great time at this museum. We learned a lot about Jinan and China in general. It was worth the visit just to see the jade ceiling. We had an English Tour Guide who did an amazing job.

The experience of walking up the stairs looking at the turquoise ceiling was good and unusual. Built like an emperor's place entrance, with very huge pillars and on a huge scale, the building was very impressive. Unfortunately the English captions were very limited, and the Museum shop was a disappointment.

Unfortunately I could only spend about 2 hours there but I could have easily spent a whole day. The exhibits span from about 5000BC to modern day. What an amazing collection of artifacts. I definitely recommend a visit. There is no entrance charges but make sure you have your identification to get in.

It is rare to see such professional and well done cultural institutions in China. This is the first Chinese museum which followed the international standards of museum technology and practice. You can learn the history of the region, Shandong, which is the birth place of the China civilization. If you can fit in half of the day here, it is... More

Situated in East Jinan, this magnificent modern state of the art building built in traditional style but with the latest in Hi Tech LED lighting and Photo Voltaic generation would be a great thing to visit. The fact that it has exhibits of magnificent traditional costumes, a wonderful collection of bronze artifacts, The Confucian exhibition alone is worth going for.... More

Better a really literate one so you can receive a better explanation of what are you seeing other wise there is a lack of information, anyway the exposure is great I loved many of the crafts exposed. A museum this big should have some recorded guidance so you can enjoy it better. I really liked pottery and new painting artists.

The museum in a building of only a few years old is located in the eastern part of Jinan. You can get there by city bus or by taxi. There is no admittance cost. To the right of the lobby is an office were you can rent headphones for an audio guide to the museum. Each room is dedicated to... More
