Other reviewers have accurately described what an amazing feat of engineering this project is. Now nearly complete it is not the most aesthetic dam in the world, but the sheer scale of it is something to behold. We came through the 5 locks at night but had a running commentary of how "awesome the walls are" by a bunch of... More

The Three Gorges Dam is the world's largest hydroelectric project. It was designed to control flooding on the Yangtze and to provide electric power to a large area of the country. The massive project caused controversy as thousands of people had to be moved as their villages were flooded. The site is now open to the public and the displays... More

We sailed through the three gorges dam on our Viking River Cruise and spent time up close with the dam and the lock system As others have said, this is a marvellous piece of modern engineering and although not one of your "chocolate box" sightseeing trips, is well worth the visit.

The day before our visit, our Viking river ship awaited transit of the locks on the Yangtze river. On the river banks, fire crackers were going off. Every spare piece of ground was awash with the yellow flowers from the rapeseed. Next morning we boarded our coaches to head to the dam. The grounds cover a large area & are... More

Took a half day tour to dam and and 2 hour Yangtze River boat cruise. A massive project that you have to see to fully grasp. It was not until the boat cruise that I fully understood the mighty Yangtze and how amazing a project this is. If you have an opportunity do not pass this up. Our tour was... More

we were on a private bus tour which included what seemed to be a standard tour/visit of the Three Gorges Dam so I'm not sure everything we did is included in the package. the first stop was atop of the dam near the locks, although they don't really let you too close due to security concerns. there were military police... With our tour group, we visited the three gorges dam project in September of 2014. Our bus first drove us around the dam project and our tour guide explained this dam project to us. Then, we were let of to tour this dam project on our own for about 1-2 hours. It was a beautiful day about 80 degrees Fahrenheit... More

In early September, 2014 we were scheduled to pass through the Three Gorges Dam aboard our tourist cruise ship, the Century Legend, which had set sail from Chongqing headed for Yichang. Unfortunately for us at that time, no cruise ships were allowed to go through the 5 ship locks of the Three Gorges Dam because the level of the Yangtze... More
