Description: This reserve offers a great antidote to the hustle and bustle of Shenzhen...
This reserve offers a great antidote to the hustle and bustle of Shenzhen (not to mention the city's many theme parks). Rent a bike or do some bird watching or just spend time on the boardwalk admiring the vistas of the city. It is the only nature reserve in an urban center in all of China.

Lovely mangrove covered bird paradise hosting many egrets, fishers and other marine birds. Free to visit but suggest avoiding weekends and holidays to avoid the crowds. Walkway and cycle path run along the coastline of the bay and are lined with tropical plants and trees.

This place is quite close to East Quiaocheng metro station but a bit difficult to find and to reach. However, this is the right place to have a relaxing walk (or you could even rent a bike) during weekends, even tough it is very crowdy. Still you can enjoy the view, take photos and look at the islands of Hong... More

I work not far from the sea front (houhai bay), so whenever I get a spare hour or two, I always make sure I get down there. For a relaxing stroll, a bike ride, a run, or even just to sit down and enjoy the peace and quiet with a book, it is easily the best place I've found so... More

The initial part of the park is nice, you wander along nice paths under the trees and it's quite relaxing. Then there's a long promenade along the beach front. If you're used to european parks this might be a bit hardcore for you as chinese parks are really big on lots of concrete. I'm not sure why but this makes... More

Overall, I give this four stars. The Mangrove Nature Reserve (officially called Hongshulin Reserve) connects many parks along the shore which forms a pretty large area. It is clean with many facilities such as toilets, restaurants and tuck shops scattered around and is pretty convenient. Along the shore, there is a nice view of Hong Kong, which is just opposite... This is a well-kept area with a chance to explore nature. We took our students there for a field trip.

Never expected this mangrove nature reserve is so relaxing. Other than biking, it is also a good place for walking along the Shenzhen Bay. Many many trees in this park. I love it and will definitely visit it again to see sunset in future.
