If you are staying in one of the many hotels in the Nanshan district - e.g. Intercontinental, Westin, Venetian hotel - you can leverage the near by Overseas Chinese Town to find both shops and restaurants. For starters here you will find one of the Shenzhen Walmart shops - a good place to stock up on basics if you are... More

I've just visited Spendid China and Folk Culture Village in Overseas China Town (3/3/15) and had a fab time! I spent four hours there, admittedly cutting a few corners and didn't watch any shows so I guess a better planned day would have easily added more than an hour to my day, maybe more. Overseas Chinese Town has different areas. One is a regular amusement park, called Happy Valley, I believe. Another is Windows to the World, which is a park that has scale copies of Worldwide Landmarks, Eiffel Tower, 'David' statue, etc. A third area, is called Splendid China, which consists of 2 parts - one is scale copies of all Chinese Wonders... We visited OCT Shenzhen twice in 2011. On clarication, there are actually three different sections of OCT at this location. One is the amusement park area which is somewhat a cross between what you would think of Disney and Downtown Disney with an Asian twist.
