Besides the cave`s own merits as the home of many interesting fossils, very entertaining stalagmites (that curve due to the wind), and an interesting geological history, this cave is where the piece of Mylodon skin that inspired Bruce Chatwin's travel book In Patagonia came from. Anyone visiting Patagonia should read that book, and anyone visiting Puerto Natales should visit the... More

In the same first full day tour to Torres del Paine, in the beginning of the morning visit to the Milodon Cave. Perhaps the very cold morning, not enjoyed a lot! But the landscape of the dawning day worth it! More

This cave is quite large and shallow but fun to explore. The museum attached to the cave is quite informative. The remains of the animal discovered in the cave is called the Milodon. The town of Puerto Natales has a carved one outside one of the stores. More

Not much to say: big cave, empty. Grand setting. Liked the labels for the plants. More

Visiting this cave is a total waste of time. It is a relatively small cave with nothing inside. And it costs 3,000 Chilean pesos (about US$ 6) to enter. Your time is much better spend skipping this attraction and spending more time in Torres del Paine National Park. More

Skip this as it is a very small cave. A waste of time and money to stop. Not really a cave, more an indentention in the cliff. More

Most of the tours stop at the Cueva del Milodon and you pay to get in, but Torres del Paine is so much more spectacular that you should not spend any time here if you can possible avoid it. More

The Cueva del Milodon is a huge cave. It is 24 km (15 mi) northwest of Puerto Natales and 270 km (168 mi) north of Punta Arenas; it's the home to the enormous Dinousaur-Sloth Mylodon Darwini; a weird horse/dinosaur/sloth mixture creature that has become the icon of Puerto Natales. The museum's English translations are woeful, but it's not a bad... More

If you travel to see the Cave of the Milodon make sure you travel to see the two smaller caves as well. They are not near as impressive but the hike is much less traveled and provides a nice view of the beautiful surroundings. More
