Stay at Koh Ru despite the totally useless western staff

We visited bamboo island as past of a day trip, snorkel etc. From serendipity beach. When we arrived, the beach was filthy, plastic bags in the water, old plastic bottles/cans/wrappers all over the place. I challenged the man collecting usd0.50 for the use of the deck chair (think English seaside chair, not sun lounger) about the state of the beach... More

We took a boat here from Sihanouville. Very beautiful island, a great place to spend one day. There are two beaches on the others sides of the island. It takes about 10 minutes to walk from one to the other. The water is very clean and blue.

I consider myself well traveled and usually travel on a budget and have stayed in the most basic accommodations in Asia. But the Koh Ru Beach huts on Bamboo island have the worst I have ever had the misfortune to spend time. I could rattle on endlessly but here are some of the main points : 1) the beach was... More

The beach there is wonderful and staff members clean it every morning, nothing to complain about there. You can relax there quite nicely, if you don`t care too much about the comfort or cleanliness of your accommodation. Bungalows are very basic made out of wooden planks (no bamboo there) with shared bathroom, at 15$ they are clearly overpriced. We had... More

Koh Ru is the quieter, less polluted, and less crowded side of the Island. Bimbamboo is the daytripper side, a bit filthy, and very crowded and noisy. The Bimbamboo Restaurant is a must though(short walk from Koh Ru) for friendly promt service and YUM food! Koh Ru: What a lovely, laid back, relaxed experience! Arrived after a 1 hour journey... I was really looking forward to enjoy a few days just chilling on this beach. However, when I got there I realized it was not my type of place....because it is SIMPLY NOT WORTH IT. My over-priced wooden "bungalows"- 15$ per night! - was literally falling apart (couldn't even close the door), the beach is really dirty....plastic rubbish and cigarette... More

This place was a lovely place to end our trip to Cambodia. Accomodation is very basic - wooden huts on the beach with shared WC but it's fine. The real attraction is the beach, the sea and the lack of people. Don't stay on the other side of the island where the day trips go into its awful - derelict... More

Just come back from Koh ru a fantastic place. Nearly deserted lovely clean beach and great restaurant, very hippyish with lots of cushions to lounge and chill on and low tables. Run by friendly kiwi couple who arrange volleyball games every day. Very good quality cheap food. Basic bungalows and dorms with separate shower and loo. We stayed at the... More

I went to Sihanoukville and, like a lot of other people who go there, couldn't wait to leave again. I took a boat to Bamboo Island, about an hour on a lovely journey. The island is quiet - only about 30 people live there, there are only 3 bunglaow resorts, 2 restaurants and 2 bars. Unlike Sihanoukville (and the rest... More
