It was a very nice ride to the top, but especially up there it was very beautiful. You can really enjoy some views over the Wolfgangsee, Mondsee and Attersee. We were with 4, but the youngest didn't have to pay because he was below 6. In total we still had to pay 71,80 euro. The train took us up in... More

We were extremely lucky with the weather, as we were only in St Wolfgang for 2 nights and it was raining when we arrived - though the next day was clear and sunny. We got to the station around 9.15 and were able to book on the 10am train. Try to get to the front of the queue for your... More

If you're reasonably fit and like a good walk (it's about 12 km and 1200 metres altitude difference) it's a wonderful trek up the mountain, and starts near the railway. Strongly suggest taking the railway down, however, walkers will know why. Check the times of last trains down, I think you can also book on them at the bottom. My... More

I've never quite understood why people get so excited about travelling on steam trains? They may look good, nostalgic, romantic, whatever... but once you're on it how is it any different from any other train? I suppose it does have the differential that you have to choose between shutting all the windows or else risk the arrival of a face... More

If you like mountain views or steam engineering you must make this trip. The views on the way up and at the top are breathtaking, The engineering (1890's technology) and 26% gradients is also breathtaking. We were there in July and the weather is variable so if you can choose your day carefully as the top of the mountain can... More

Very enjoyable. You need a non cloudy day. The sight from the top is fantastic. You can see so many lakes in Austria. You can get drink, food etc at the top. Make sure you book your return trip when you arrive at the top. A couple of hours is sufficient

A super trip on a really great railway. A must if you are in Austria ! Amazing views from the top and on the way up and down. the two hotel/bars at the top have stunning scenery `and both are good places to have a drink whilst absorbing the views. A real treat!

Excellent view along the way and on top of the Schafberg mountain Reasonable frequency and price is fair. Try to get it during week days and if you stay at St. Wolfgang- receive 1 ticket free for every purchased ticket

This was great fun and really interesting. Unfortunately the day we went up (and the day we came down) were absolutely horrendous. Pouring rain and low cloud made it impossible to see anything. I'm sure the views would be lovely on a nice sunny day. Well worth a visit!
