On a very hot day we went up the cog railway it took about 35mins to get to the top. It was a lovely trip to the top of the mountain where it was slightly cooler. There are a couple of places to eat and get a drink. Whatever you do make sure you book your place on the train... More

I guess it would have been nice on a good weather day, however visibility was zero, and it was overcrowded with tour groups.

From the moment you reach the kasa get ready to be fleeced. It`s 33E for an adult, 16.50E for a kid under 6 to 14. Christ almighty a dog costs 15.80.That`s pretty hefty for a 40min ride on, unluckily in our case, a diesel rather than a steam cog train. However, on a lovely sunny day the views at the... More

The train leaves in every 20minutes. The jourbey takes 30minutes to the top, where the view is priceless. You can see the 3lakes from the top and make many excursions.

Great trip up the mountain, but expensive. Also not much walking. If looking for exercise, get off at the middle station and walk up the rest of the way.

Did a day return trip from Salzburg to Schafbergspitze during the recent heatwave. Bus #150 from Salzburg Hbf Bus Terminal to St. Gilgen. Then bought combi return ferry/mountain railway ticket (around €46) at St.Gilgen Ferry Booking Office. Weather was glorious and the Wolfgangsee location is stunning. The mountain railway ferry stop is just outside St. Wolfgang. The views from the... More

This is an excellent trip into the mountains. The steam train is nostalgic but gives you plenty of time to enjoy the amazing views as you slowly make your way up the mountain. the views from the top are amazing and there are plenty of places to sit and enjoy. Well with a visit.

Took a few people up here, having alreay been up in previous years. It isn't cheap but the views at the top are spectacular. There is a hotel at top and also a mountin hut, which could be better considering the amount of visitors they must get. The public conveniences at the bottom station were not great by usual Austrian... More

Expensive trip, bit uncomfortable but what fantastic views at the top! It is well worth a visit. You can walk up too but I think this takes about 4 hours
