This is going to be a long review, but I hope dear reader you stick with it. I will include quite a few tips along the way. We visited today, 29th September,on what was a very hot but beautiful day for a trip like this; hardly a cloud in the sky. We drove from Berchtesgaden (1 hour). We parked in... More

It may seem a little pricey but it is well worth it. Although it was a sun/cloud mix on the day we went (we were above the clouds!), we still were able to see many of the surrounding lakes.

We took a punt and went up on a cloudy day. You can park for 4 euros for the day in a small car park past the ticket office. The ride up is fun and bumpy and we were offered some views before rising into the clouds. Up the top it was freezing cold and blowing a gale. Mostly everyone... More

Fantastic views on way up and down - sit on the LHS on way up and RHS on way down for best views. If you can stay overnight in the hotel and miss the trainloads of tourists in the morning. You can park overnight in the car park next to the crazy golf course for 3 Euros,

My wife and I wanted to get a nice taste of the Salzkammergut, and decided to use Sankt Wolfgang as our base, staying at the Strand Margaretha hotel (separate review). It proved to be amazingly well placed, just a one or two minute walk to the ticket booth for the ferry and cogwheel train. As our visit took place the... More

I liked the views of the lake Wolfgang on the way up and down the mountain and the wonderful panoramic view from the Schafberg top.

If you are in the Salzburg area for a few days and want to include a mountain ascent as one of your activities then this is the one. It is expensive but if you pick your day (with the weather) you will not be disappointed (as we weren’t). We did not have a car and were staying in Salzburg so... More

It may cost €32 per person (10% off with a Salzburgerland card). But it is very worthwhile. The steep train journey takes 35 minutes each way. The views from the top are stunning. Most visitors tend to congregate around the restaurant and cafe, but there are a couple of walks possible at the summit that allow you to get away... More
