Fantastic trip

This is a must do when in town. The views from the top looking out over the Alps are stunning. Not great if you suffer from vertigo

Great views, The booking office was quite busy the first time we tried to book so we went early the next day and purchased tickets for a later train before having breatfast.

the views of the train rides are spectacular just like everyone says. however, the return trip tends to be more crowded and you may be faced with a sad chance of being stuck in the middle seat facing the rear! To avoid this misfortune, i recommend to standby 10~15 minutes ahead of train departure or just hike down the mountain... More

We visited on a gloriously sunny day and the journey up the mountain was spectacular. We loved the train, the little details (like the leather straps on the windows) were so good and the journey slow enough to take good photos at times. The refreshment bars at the top with panoramic views across the mountains made this a complete day.... More

The ride itself, up and down the Schafberg mountain, offers great views on a non-overcast day. The view from the top of the Schafberg is among the most beautiful in the Austrian Alps, but that is about everything that goes for this attraction. Oh, and steep prices don't help either. Additional contents, for example a museum with info on how... More

The best part of the day was the trip to and from St Gilgen. You are given the time of the train when you book your ticket. Unfortunately we had a travel group on the train who had priority in getting on. This resulted in us filling the gaps. You will get five people on every bench no matter what... More

the point of going up the Schafberg is to see several lakes at the one time. Some locals claim one can see up to seven. That can happen during the second week of September providing there will be a full moon the following week and you are on the mountain by 7 am. At all other times you will see... More

When we got to the station it indicated the first train wouldn't be until 11:00 which was not very good as we had to leave St. Wolfgang by 12:00. We spoke to the lady at the booking office and explained the situation. As there was a party of us she phoned her manager who agreed to run a train at... More

Takes you up to the top of the mountain. You feel like in the movie Sound of Music. Breathtaking view. Restaurant on top. A lifetime experience. Must see!
