My wife and I wanted to get a nice taste of the Salzkammergut, and decided to use Sankt Wolfgang as our base, staying at the Strand Margaretha hotel (separate review). It proved to be amazingly well placed, just a one or two minute walk to the ticket booth for the ferry and cogwheel train. As our visit took place the... More

I liked the views of the lake Wolfgang on the way up and down the mountain and the wonderful panoramic view from the Schafberg top.

If you are in the Salzburg area for a few days and want to include a mountain ascent as one of your activities then this is the one. It is expensive but if you pick your day (with the weather) you will not be disappointed (as we weren’t). We did not have a car and were staying in Salzburg so... More

It may cost €32 per person (10% off with a Salzburgerland card). But it is very worthwhile. The steep train journey takes 35 minutes each way. The views from the top are stunning. Most visitors tend to congregate around the restaurant and cafe, but there are a couple of walks possible at the summit that allow you to get away... More

There are not that many things to do in St Wolfgang but even so this trip is a must do. Although slightly expensive the trip is worthwhile with the small train winding its way up the mountain through forests and cuttings, up steep inclines with super views for most of the thirty five minute trip. The views at the top... More

This was the highlight of my visit to Austria. It costs €32 per adult passenger and worth ever cent. The views from the summit are breathtaking. Pick a good day (clear) take note of the weather forecast your journey takes you above the clouds. At the top is a restaurant and a cafe. Beer and food is no more expensive... More

nice slow trip up the mountain, still snow at the top in May, you need to be very experienced walker if you wish to walk down as it is very loose underfoot beautiful views and vista.

Fantastic view all the way up and at the top every way you look, could have spent a lot more time at the top had it not been 35 degs. and no shade other than the café.
