A super trip on a really great railway. A must if you are in Austria ! Amazing views from the top and on the way up and down. the two hotel/bars at the top have stunning scenery `and both are good places to have a drink whilst absorbing the views. A real treat!

Excellent view along the way and on top of the Schafberg mountain Reasonable frequency and price is fair. Try to get it during week days and if you stay at St. Wolfgang- receive 1 ticket free for every purchased ticket

This was great fun and really interesting. Unfortunately the day we went up (and the day we came down) were absolutely horrendous. Pouring rain and low cloud made it impossible to see anything. I'm sure the views would be lovely on a nice sunny day. Well worth a visit!

Well worth a detour.. the journey up and down organised just like a normal railway even though you travel to 1800m in elevation. There are several choices for refreshment at the top so no need to go hungry or indeed thirsty. The trains seem to run every 20 minutes or so and there is a screen showing the seats available... This railway is one of it's kind and a funny reminder of the glory days of Salzkammergut as a major tourist attraction in Europe. The whole experience of going up the steep mountain railway and enjoying the most beautiful views from the top of the Schaffgerg summit is worth the effort. The train is very popular, so if you have... More

A great trip up the Schafberg. A a small steam engine pulls you up a narrow gauge to a height of 1783 metres above lake Wolfgangsee, much easier than walking up!

Do not travel on this train if you have problems with heights. It is a thrilling experience as the gradient is so steep and the rail is right on the edge of the mountain for part of the journey. The views from the top are truly amazing, several lakes can be seen. There are two restaurants at the top for... More

This is an unmissable attraction for any visitor to St Wolfgang. At 32 euros (£26) per person for the return trip to the summit it is great value on account of the views available for miles around from the top. Make sure you choose a clear day weather wise to set off. A halfway station up the mountain can be... More
