We went on the Saturday after Thanksgiving with a group of friends to have a meet up where we could get together with old friends. We picked the zoo because no matter what the weather, the zoo can accommodate. We were surprised by nice weather and toured both the inside portion and the great trails around the exterior zoo. The... More

We went on a cold, rainy day, and had nearly the whole place to ourselves. This zoo is extraordinary! The pens are huge and natural. Its spread out enough, and lots of inside viewing of the animals too. No african animals (elephants, giraffes, or zebras), but great aquarium with sharks and touch tanks.

My dad had to work while we were up visiting so we decided to visit. Being in Minnesota a portion of the zoo is attached to the main entrance building including discovery bay, tropics trail, and the minnesota trail the latter extending outdoors. The tropics trail made you feel like you were in a rain forest and the Minnesota trail... More

We happened to time our visit for field trip Friday so we were joined by bus loads of school age children however the zoo is large enough to accommodate everyone without feeling crowded. The enclosures are a little dated from some zoos but still large & well marked with informative signage. In particular, the big bugs exhibit was interesting and... More

We visited on November 1st when it was just above zero and very cold. First exhibit outside was the grizzly bears enclosure which was great, one of the 3 Alaskan Bears was wandering around giving everyone a great up close view, the other 2 were asleep in their den which was also viewable but obviously not as exciting to watch.... The Minnesota zoo is a gem. It's expensive for the entire family, they even charge a parking fee, but I don't think you'll leave feeling short changed. The main building houses the tropical exhibit. It's a warm lush environment that is so beautiful you'll want to move in. No feeling sorry for animals in cells here. There is a single... More

No zebras (which disappointed one in our party) - but we were impressed by the large spaces for the animals. Also the zoo seemed to have a focus on sustainability - paper (not styrofoam), etc which was nice to see. We did eat at the food court and all the options we picked were really tasty - which is not... More

We found the MN Zoo just ok, especially after visiting a couple of other really nice zoos in the last year (Henry Doorly in Omaha and the Safari Zoo in Escondido, CA); for the size of city it is in, it seems like there could be more exotic animals/features. We were VERY disappointed that the dolphins and dolphin show was... More

If you are looking for a really fun zoo to visit, this is definitely one of the better ones in the country. Very well taken care of facility, with many impressive animals to see!

Worth the 15-20 minute drive south of the cities. The new and continuously improved animal displays are awesome. The new grizzly exhibit is always entertaining. The zoo recently shut down the dolphin exhibit and the mono-rail ride that wrapped around the park. It is unfortunate that the mono-rail is down because the walk on the outside trail is not conducive... More
