Kids were excited to see the statue. It is under construction and restoration. We're still able to get decent pictures. Something to talk about for years to come.

I love traveling MN, because about every other town has a giant statue of some sort that puts them on the map. Big Ole has some interesting history behind him and this town, which makes it an extra interesting stop. He's a huge, impressive figure, great for photo ops, however, as we visited in July 2015, there was orange fence... More

We have been coming up here since I was a baby and for as long as I can remember Ole has been an iconic figure of the area to me and now my nephews see it as the same. To most he is just a statue but to me and my family he is a staple of the region and... More

What could be a very neat statue is located in a at the end of the main street. It was being worked on so I hope they do something with the landscaping which might help the location where he stands.

But in saying that he his very majestic and the setting by the Lake very appropriate. Just opposite the Rune Museum and when all his scaffolding comes down I am sure he will be back to his fine glory. Well worth the detour off the Interstate. Not a brilliant photo but see how he towers above the fence. Great explanation... More

If you go all the way to Alex, and YOU DONT see Big Ole, you're crazy! You will never see something like this again. Must.

Worth a quick drive-by and photo stop, but not really more. It's currently under renovation, so there is a giant orange (ugly) fence all around it, which ruins the effect of a photo. The area is pretty for a walk, and there is some interesting info on the shelter walls. Kids thought it was "lame" and wanted to go back... More

Located in nice park. Offers little for explanation. It is part of the larger than life statues you will see through northern MN and ND.

We had a little trouble finding Ole as the trip advisor directions sent us to Park street instead of Ole Park right by the trail and Runestone Museum. He is big and tacky...but worth the 5 minute stop. Plenty of parking nearby and people to take your photo for you.

I have been visiting Big Ole since I was little. I was happy to see he is still there, just moved down the block and out of the intersection. Be sure to stop by the Rune Stone Museum while you're in the neighborhood.
