The Burj Al Arab is built on an artificial island just off the Dubai coast.You cannot get from the mainland to visit the hotel without passing through the guard house. Very hard to say exactly what is most odd about the Burj. Perhaps its the very strict security just to get in to try and spend money. Perhaps its the most gaudy clash of colours in the known world.
