In the old part of town this restored old house is traditional in style with wind tower architecture . The courtyard is a place of tranquility and in the cooler months a great place to relax and have a snack or a nice vegetarian lunch that they do so well . The art is a bit ho hum and could... More

For some reason, most people have to seek this place out, as it's not really well advertised. This charming little courtyard has a cafe that serves fresh juice as well as a mostly vegetarian menu. It's a tranquil, peaceful, creative space that I will definitely visit again.

XVA is a gallery and boutique hotel. It has a central air-conditioned courtyard where they serve meals. Worth a visit

Just loved everything, but most of all the peacefullness and friendliness of the staff. Rooms are a bit small, but beautifully decorated. Café is lovely with vegetarian food.

We stopped here for a bite to eat, while we waited for Bastakia to open and 'come to life.' The mint tea was okay and the rose flavoured cheese cake sounded better than it tasted. The art work ranged from odd to interesting. I must confess, given the surrounding area, I expected a little more Dubai/ Arabic art. I found... More

Although XVA has original artwork on display, we were drawn inside for lunch. Hidden in the Bastakia area of Dubai and a short distance from the museum, XVA is actually a place to stay. A restored house built in the old wind tower style, its inner courtyard is shaded both by a fig tree and canopies of cloth stretched across... More

We stayed here for two nights. The rooms are quirky but delightful. Forget the 5 star luxury and glitz of modern Dubai hotels. This is a one room with a bed in it experience. It does have en-suite facilities. The stay was fantastic, a real visit to the past. The whole area is worth a exploring. Wander round the narrow... More

Really nice courtyard house with art scattered around. Quality of the art was varied but cafe was really nice and the halloumi and cucumber sandwich on flatbread I will def be making at home!

I have lived in Dubai for 4 years and always recommend wandering around the Bastakiya area to see the old architecture, wind towers and the XVA gallery. They always have interesting exhibits. I believe you can also stay there (kind of a traditional Middle Eastern little boutique hotel) which would be a very nice way to experience the area and... More
