Just a gate

You get to see it as you enter Makkah on your way for Umrah or Hajj. It looks nice but it's not an attraction. Keep driving.

The bab-makkah is the standard disembarking point of cars that come to Jeddah from Makkah and other northerly cities. It is a bustling, crowded area with delis (here they call them buffiyas), people, screaming taxi drivers waiting for their cabs to fill up with passengers to go back to Taif. A spot which is very crowded and full of shopping options. It is located in the old part of the city. It worth going at least once per visit.

This is really the heart of Jeddah old town. Crowded area with a lot of stores and old malls and tall towers. A lot of governmental authorities are there too.

It makes a good starting point for a tour of Al Balad district (Jeddah Old City) but as a tourist attraction itself, it is quite plain. The surrounding area is of much more interest.
