This Balad Area of old Jeddah is a must if you really want to relax and get away from the bumper-to-bumper Jeddah traffic. It is a great walking self tour and don't forget your camera!!

2 trips within 2 years to Balad and in December 2014 it was remarkably cleaner than before. Great for shopping, with thousands of local products for sale from shisha pipes to spices to electronics. If haggling is your thing you'll be in paradise in Balad! Shopkeepers that we dealt with were all very friendly and approachable. Very atmospheric, especially in... More

contains some of Jeddah's old buildings ...A must visit if you want to see old shops ...the place for wholesalers and best deals... beware of traffic jam hours ...it took my driver over 45 minutes to cover 150 meters... driving is really dangerous around Jeddah. Most shops are managed by Yeminis ...

I'm Saudi and still love strolling downtown, the haggling, the fresh spices and old men with handicrafts. I especially love the gold market, but that's just me ;) Great prices if you haggle well.. Bring someone native with you if you can because you'll get a much better price on just about everything. It's a safe part of town, not... More

It is like a large outdoor market with all different kinds of stores and shops that will keep you looking and walking for hours upon hours. Eat before you come as there is a dirth of restaurants in... More

This whole area is a giant Souk. Do not pay the posted prices! Expect to barter and aggressively! This is the fun of shopping here!

One of the nice walkable areas of Jeddah. It seems it is one of the last historic areas that are being preserved in Jeddah. It is worth visiting. You can find a lot of stuff there –food, clothes and nic nacs however, you really need to bargain. You can find good oil based perfumes. It is in the downtown area... More
