Highly recommended as the place to shop for quality Lao handicrafts. They have a special focus on natural cotton and natural dyes with lots of great Indigo designs. We found this a great place to buy gifts for both men and women. There is also a small café serving Lao Fair Trade coffee, home made ice-cream (we loved peanut brittle... More

This shop has handmade natural products from villages all over Laos. Some stunning, high quality cotton pieces for sale (I LOVE my new indigo cotton shawl, naturally dyed). I couldn't find anything that was as good or similar at the night market. Plus it's fair trade. Well worth the visit.

A charming shop, open on the street and on Lao, like is its owner, a wonderful woman full of energy. You won't be pushed to buy and will have time to wander among clothes, bathroom towels, bags and coffee coming from different areas of Laos. Sure it is more expensive than the night market, but in both case, you get... More

Ma Te Sai is a wonderful shop to browse around and buy beautiful fair trade handicrafts sourced from villages with skilled craftspeople, weavers etc. The prices are incredibly reasonable fair for what you are buying...and when you're done you can sit and sip a fair trade coffee or book a sunset cruise or trip to Pak Ou on the amazing... We ran into this apparently new place as it has a very inviting (open) shopfront with a few chairs to sit down and have coffee. Many products are labelled or called 'fair trade', which in itself is a wonderful thing, but with 'Ma te sai' I couldn't believe all of it. The shop offers extremely pricy tours into the surroundings... More

Thank you for recognising we are a fair trade store. We also are a social enterprise, we have to ensure to be profitable so we can keep buying products from our suppliers, all over Laos. In the store we have items from as little as 200,00kip or $2.50 up to our most expensive jackets, $150. Our business model is not... More

I was introduced to Emi by a friend who recommended that I go to her shop for my purchases. I was delighted, went back twice and have now ordered from home. Emi has her own boat. She goes to the weavers; she knows them and their families and her purpose is to have a small business that sells beautiful handmade... More

Ma Te Sai: "Where's it from?" Central to the idea of this shop is sustainability - handcrafted, home made, repurposed and supporting villagers. Wonderful introduction by staff of the variety of social, sustainable enterprises that keep livelihoods and villages afloat in Laos. At Ma Te Sai, they sell items as local and organic as handcrafted, sustainably sourced and hand loomed... More

This is a great shop with a selection of gifts some smaller and therefore less expensive. They are all of a good quality. The other wonderful thing is that the money does get back to support the many villages where the beautifully crafted items come from.

Last January in Luan Prabang, my husband and I met a very nice and brilliant Australian young woman, Emi Weir. She is the owner of Ma Te Sai(which in Lao means where is it from..) a nice shop in Main street near the Royal Palace where you can find beautiful, good quality , authentic (and sustainable) lao products, all hand...
