On a recent trip through south east Asia I researched and booked cooking classes in as many countries as possible - Tamnak Lao was my class in Laos. I would say I'm a fairly experienced cook but I am always keen on expanding my repertoire especially in regards to learning how to prepare a variety of south east Asian dishes.... More

I thought it was a real good day. First to the market to see the vegetables and we got some explanations with unknown vegetables. Comes in handy. After that the teacher showed us 10dishes. From What is in there to how to Cook. After that we cooked 3 dishes of choice our selfs. I learned a lot of it. It... More

I tried booking at the restaurant twice for classes. The waiter just told me to show up at 9:30 the next day and said the same thing later that day. When i showed up the next day, they decided not to conduct classes as they didn't know there were people coming. I am quite disappointed as it was my last... More

I agree with the previous comment about disinterested staff and the lack of assistance. Like wise we have done cooking classes in at least 3 other Asian countries and this was the worst. The instructors (and I use the term loosely) were not at all helpful . They demonstrated 4 dishes at a million miles an hour and then we... More

We enjoyed our class immensely. We were in a group of about 12 people, all from various places, and between the cook's instructions, and our fun group, we had a really great experience. I don't understand all of the negative reviews; we had a great time. Just sharing with our fellow cooks, we got some great tips for the rest... More

I've done many cooking classes in Asia and this was without doubt the worst. Very impersonal. The staff just wanted to quickly show us what to do then leave us to our own devices. Very little guidance. No formal introduction. No laughs. We had to wait 10 minutes for another two people to show and while we were waiting there... More

I did the cooking course at Tamnak Lao Cooking School in September 2012 and it was seriously fantastic. Admittedly I was the only person attending the course that day - the two chefs were very attentive, the visit to the market was fascinating and the food delicious and generous in the serving sizes. I'd highly recommend this school.

Inspire by this evening course to recreat the simple dishes at home. Fairly well paced , and with limited instruction after the initial demo, thus class would be better suited to experienced cooks. Ingredients and substitutes that could be found in Asian stores back home, a no nonsense approach to Lao cooking.

Visit to the market was useless and rushed, the cook didn't bother to wait for everyone to be around when "explaining" something, and never repeated anything.. Then the cooks showed us the recipes, one again rushing everything, and then we had to do it ourselves, which is good, but the cooks couldn't care less to what we were doing, they... More

The class started well with a nice group of 10 people from around the world all excited at the prospect of the market tour which was OK. When we got back to the school area we were immediately into the action which I found OK as a fairly experienced cook. The instructors were only OK and did not provide assistance... More
