I took the night class and was the only one in the class. So I got to cook all the 5 dishes with the two chefs together and packed back all the food (nice!) The teaching was pretty brief and to the point. In between the two chefs asked me questions abt where I come from and I got to... More

A group of friends and I decided to do the full-day Tamnak Lao Cooking School course. It was $30 USD per head (there is an evening option which is $20 USD), which included a photocopied reasonably comprehensive cookbook, a morning market tour, demonstration of 7 dishes, and the chance to cook 5 of those 7 (lunch and an early-ish dinner).... As above 5 dot reviews, this was a very very good class and the books you take home are no longer photocopies, rather well instructed A4 books with hints on how to also make it at home with other ingredient. The problem I had was the Australian in the book shop I paid the money to. We are also Australian... More

A great cooking school experience. Very hands-on for the students, and great food. One of the better options in Luang Prabang More

The instructors, Phia and Leng, were very good teachers and helpful to us as we attempted to create the dishes they taught to make. We came away confident with the cookbook provided to us that we could demonstrate our skills at home. More

Well timed and head chef was detailed in taking the class through the different ingredients, how to find alternatives, etc. Great to work hard and enjoy the dishes in the company of fellow tourists swopping stories and travel experiences. More

So I did the course on the weekend with some friends staying in town. It's advertised as 10am to 5pm but is over with a little quicker. Costs is $30USD or 250,000kip (not a good exchange rate!) which is about the same as other schools but when asking for a discount based on being a local expat it was not... More

We've been traveling in SE Asia for a few months now and are taking cooking classes in every country we're stopping at. Each have their own format. We wanted to attend the cooking class at Tamarind based on TA reviews, but they weren't offering them in March. We then turned to Tamnak Lao. The big plus about their format was... More
