Previously known as ‘Tiger Trail Elephant Camp’ and ‘Elephant Park Project’ and ‘Elephant XL’, Elephant Village was first located opposite the Lao Spirit Resort on the Nam Khan River. We are currently located next to the village Ban Xieng Lom. Elephant Village focuses on three objectives:1. “Saving Elephants” 2. “Community Support”3. “Nature Preservation”We take elephants out of the very dangerous logging industry and provide them with an alternative way of earning their income. We try to help the elephants which desperately need help the most. For example, older elephants and elephants which have injuries due to accidents. We currently have 12 elephants in our care. They include an 80 year old female (who has since died of old age), a 63 year old female who is nearly blind in both eyes and a 38 year old female who is completely blind in the right eye. Our most recently acquired elephant is a disabled female who was injured when she stepped on a ‘UXO’ (Un-Exploded Ordinance) some years ago. « less

We understand that the German owner may want to share his wealth but he is exagerating by giving the tourist a bad description about what to expect and a 5000 kip lunch buffet (the value we estimated considering that you get a great plate of vegetarian food for 10000 at the night market) I would not call it a lunch... I did the one day mahout experience ($79) and had a phenomenal time. You have 3 elephant rides during the day. The first is a short training ride where they teach you some basic commands and how to climb up onto the elephant. You climb up on to the back of her head and go for a short walk around... More

Both my husband and I embarked on the 1 day Mahout tour and we really enjoyed it. We booked through our hotel and paid about $US80/pp which seemed quite reasonable for the experience. We were picked up at our hotel at 9.00am and drove for about 1 hour to get to the elephant camp. The road is pretty bumpy to... More

My wife and I spent one evening and a day and a half at the Elephant Village. The operation is only a short distance from Luang Prabang which makes it easily accessible for a half day excursion. The site is beautifully positioned on the banks of the river and you can tell that a lot of thought has gone into... More

This was a great experience and helped make our visit to Luang Prabang very special. There is a reason this experience is so highly rated. We chose it based upon Trip Advisor recommendations and we are glad we did! More

Great place which helps the elephants to have a sustainable future by educating tourists. Lots of information about Lao Elephants, their logging pasts and the troubles they have getting enough food when humans compete with them for land. It's great to see a place which helps give (some) of them a good life. Beautiful setting and riding on the elephants... More

The elephants were contented and well looked after and I felt exactly the same at the end of the day. The place was very clean and halfway through the day we had a a swim in a small but pleasingly swanky pool followed by a nice buffet lunch. We were in a group of six and had various activities involving... More
