We stayed the night in Viscri as part of an Intrepid Tour and glad we did. It is such a unique experience and rather than just passing thru it was lovely to be part of the evening and early morning towns everyday happenings. Just watching the cows, goats, horses and donkey returning from the fields to their respective homes early... More

We saw the Prience Charles house only from outside. Instead, we visited the church from the vilage, which is small but very nice. The roads are not wery well paved, with some portions of dust.

This little village is easy to miss but is well worth the short detour from the main road. It has a lovely church and community centre but just seeing the rural way of life and local houses is an experience. we bought a picnic from the local shop - limited selection - and had local cheese from the visiting farmer.... Very nice place to visit in one morning. There is a lady at the door who is more than willing to share the place's history with the visitors. The road until there not so good, need to drive carefully.

After being underwhelmed by the displays at some tourist sites, the fortified church at Viscri was a pleasant surprise. Not only for the Saxon architecture and views, but tourists were allowed to climb ladders and walk on wooden floors. Each floor visited has displays of life in Viscri, with archive photos, books, weaving and agricultural tools and other memorabilia. After... More

I almost hesitate to write this as the village is quite out of the way and I'm not sure I should let the secret out about this most amazing and charming place. It is a real look at a small Transylvanian village with the main attraction being a saxon fortified church that has outstanding views from the top and a... More

An excellent example of a saxon fortified church within a charming village. The view from the church tower over the surrounding countryside and village is terrific. The houses have been nicely done up on the outside. You can see village life going on around you with horse and carts being used, geese and turkeys wandering the streets and we even... More

If you want to see a normal romanian village, with an average fortified church, with homemade lunch&dinners in modest/primitive contitions, than you will be ok ; but do not expect something to mark you ... there are a lot of nicer villages and places in all Transilvania, which for sure you will remember them : harman&prejmer, sighisoara, sibiu, rasinari, cisnadie,... Not only the Saxon fortified church but the lovely village itself is a must when you're in the vicinity. The road to the settlement looks like a secret road to a dead end but the architecture and the mood of the village compensate. The whole village looks like the Saxons had left it yesterday (actually a few decades ago), most... More
