An excellent example of a saxon fortified church within a charming village. The view from the church tower over the surrounding countryside and village is terrific. The houses have been nicely done up on the outside. You can see village life going on around you with horse and carts being used, geese and turkeys wandering the streets and we even... More

If you want to see a normal romanian village, with an average fortified church, with homemade lunch&dinners in modest/primitive contitions, than you will be ok ; but do not expect something to mark you ... there are a lot of nicer villages and places in all Transilvania, which for sure you will remember them : harman&prejmer, sighisoara, sibiu, rasinari, cisnadie,... Not only the Saxon fortified church but the lovely village itself is a must when you're in the vicinity. The road to the settlement looks like a secret road to a dead end but the architecture and the mood of the village compensate. The whole village looks like the Saxons had left it yesterday (actually a few decades ago), most... More

This place is ok but is starting to face the tourism dilemma: on one hand, it's its authenticity and obviously the fact that Prince Charles owns property here that put it on the tourist map. On the other, as more and more tourists are arriving, you see overpriced "pensiunes" opening up: the house at viscri 125, for example, is extremely... More

We toured Brasov and we went with a group on a tour to this location. I was more looking forward to go to Bran castle and this was just one of the stops along the way. But it turned out this place was the place of far more interest and fun. The old village is well out of town and... More

This village is famed for Prince Charles involvement. He owns one of the simple village houses where, when we visited, housed a number of British apprentices working on conservation of the Saxon church. He is encouraging locals to learn and retain their traditional craft skills.

To reach this old village, you need to drive on a very poor condition 10km road. Maybe this isolation gives a special charm: poor people, old houses, dirt roads, attracting tourists like a magnet. Trying to reach the fortified church, i was surprised that the first people i have met was some english students, come here through a Prince Charles... More

Viscri was fabulous. I recommend staying at least 2 nights and more if you can spare it. There are several excellent B&Bs and a couple Saxon houses have been turned into restaurants serving delicious meals. By day you can hike or bike the countryside and visit with craftsmen like the blacksmith or tile maker. It is a step back in... More

Our private tour guide took my partner and I to visit here first thing in the morning. He had to go get the keys so we had the whole attraction to ourselves - which you would not get in the UK! It was so peaceful and tranquil an our tour guide explained all the history of the fortified church to... More
