The road to the lake is quite adventurous, when you drive in a fog like in a B category thriller - in the middle of Summer. Nevermind the "road is closed" sign, you can easily get to the lake if you drive carefully on the serpentine. You won't be alone, you'll meet other cars and motorcycles. Balea Lake is the... More

Driving from Brasov to Sibiu- let 2-3 hours for this deviation and drive up to Balea Lake. It worth it. It's an easy walk around the lake, you can climb one of the summits (quite steep) or spend some time in one of the restaurants facing the lake. The view justifies the relatively hard drive. If you wish to drive... More

Be prepared it is cold up there, but what a view on the drive up to the Balea like, well worth the extra 150km I did to see it...google it and be convinced you want to go up there. best time seems to be very early in the morning to avoid day congestion.

The Balea lake is access by car from late june till november because of snow. It's a great place to start trekking in Fagaras mountains to Negoiu and Moldoveanu peaks.

The drive up the Transfăgărășan to get to Balea Glacier Lake was absolutely gorgeous. WHAT a drive. Obviously this is a place best viewed in the summer (not to mention that the road is closed in the winter anyway). Beautiful blue-green water surrounded by majestic mountains. At the summit there is a little bazaar-type place with lots of vendors selling... More

Access is by cable car if the Transfagarasan highway is closed (Nov-June) due to snow. There are two hotels up here. Go to both to see the view. One has a good view of the lake, the other of the ascent. One can also go up to where the cross is for the best view of the ascent. Very cold... More

Very dissappointed that the road was closed to reach the lake by car. They keep it closed from november to june. The view is still nice though. You can reach it by using the cabin for 50 ron per person with at least 10 ppl in the cabin

The road was amazing, the air - fresh. I just loved how I didn't make an excuse to visit this place. It's a bit crowded but it's good for every age. Recommend this if you want to relax in the city.

You stop at the Balea Lake when you go through the Transfagarasan. It's a great place to stop and buy souvenirs and also to have lunch at the restaurant there! We saw a lot of sheep and shepherds on the mountains from the Balea Lake. It was wonderful!
