Description: The Jina Pastoral Museum was born through the efforts of one family and...
The Jina Pastoral Museum was born through the efforts of one family and the support of an entire community. The Morariu family lived in Jina for generations. At one point Mrs. Morariu decided to renovate the annex of a house where old and forgotten furniture and objects were stored. It is at this point that Mrs Morariu had to make a decision - give up on these objects or keep them. More than a hundred years had passed since someone used those objects, so it was no question of bringing them back to their initial purpose. So what was the family to do? A museum of course. It started as a collection of old furniture and objects used by the people in that area of Transylvania, mostly sheepfold attire, but also day to day objects from centuries ago. Each one of those objects tell the story of a very old community, that has survived through centuries of political, social and ethnic changes untouched.Soon enough people in Jina found out about Mrs. Morariu's passion for collecting "old stuff" and many of them came to donate whatever they had around the house and needed no more. The annex became to little to hold so much history, so with the help of the community and a few sponsors, the idea of an actual museum was born. Three rooms and a barn were renovated to hold the exhibit. So, if you are ever in Jina, one of the most beautiful and wealthy villages in Romania, do not hesitate to pay a visit to the Morariu Pastoral Museum. Mrs Morariu is very happy to host a tour and talk about the multitude of objects she treasures so much. Like any museum, you can get memorabilia, usually handmade objects made by mrs. Morariu herself.

This Pastoral Museum is one of few leftovers of Romani's rural history (real history). From the moment you enter in the museum, you step into another realm full with traditions and every-day habits. Tools, garments, old objects presented in the context of traditions passed from father to son. The host brings the story to life enhancing the visitor's experience. Strongly... More

A perfect location for those looking for a different kind of tourism. Enchanting stpries, old objects currated by a devoted guide, the Lady of the house. We were among the lucky guests to receive traditional food treats. The pastoral panorama surrounding the museum and the sound of the animals close by added to the back-in-time effect of the visit. A... More
