The amphitheater is worth a visit but for me the Balabanov house was the real sensation in Plovdiv's Old Town. The ceilings are made out of carved wood. The streets in the Old Town are paved with very old and very large stones. Definately not for ladies in high heels.

This truly is a must see. It takes one back in time and gives a taste of what once was. If you come to Bulgaria, you must come to Plovdiv.

Roman theatre is worth seeing - amazing setting. The old town is nice to stroll around and take in the shops and galleries. The old waring is that the cobbles are large and very uneven so be carefull in your choice of footware

It was fascinating to take a tour of the old town and to see the structures built by successive inhabitants of the city (Roman theatres; mosques; churches; etc.)

No trip to Plovdiv would be complete without a visit to the old town: cobbled streets, restaurants, antique shops, churches, museums, traditional Bulgarian houses and roman ruins - the old town has so much to offer in a relatively small space. Don't miss - the Roman amphitheater which in summer evenings often has free concerts/festivals (there's a great annual international... More

The old town is nice and quiet but get a good map as we had difficulty with a hotel map. Wear comfortable shoes as the cobbled streets are not good for walking.

I was on a business trip to Plovdiv & had just few hours before my flight back home and locals suggested me to invest those few hours in this place and I am glad that the returns were far better than I had imagined. Beautiful hoses and museums transport us back to the Renaissance era. Must visit if you are... More

Reminiscent of the theater of Epidaurus in miniature. It is in the city center and you can easily reach the shops round there.
