Ancient Plovdiv, or the Old Town as the place is known, can take you back in time. Most of the houses are very well preserved or restored. Many of the houses are used as residential even today, but most are turned into museums and galleries. Concerts and performances take place at the Roman Theater. There is some nice coffee shops... This oldbulgarian revival town ia nestled all over one of the 7 hills and has had agreat run as a tourist destination. However, the new buildings coming up in the recent times are not keeping up with the theme of theplace and thus itdidnt gain an Unesco world heritage status...major black eye for the local authorities. Still worth the trip.

Cobblestones, beautiful old buildings and a view of the city at the top. A few souvenir shops, but not a lot of variety. All the shops seem to have the same things.

Plovdiv Old Town is a well-preserved complex where on a relatively small area visitors can take walks through different historical ages, see ancient buildings adapted to the modern way of life (some of them are now museums) and feel the spirit of the town from the Bulgarian Revival Period. The Old Town lies on three hills (the closely situated Dzhambaz... More

Plovdiv is well known with it old historical part and ancient ruins. It is a place one must visit to feel the atmosphere of old Philippopolis. The ruins are well preserved and it is very pleasant to take a walk. Moreover they are situated in the central part of the town. There are also a lot of painters around.

I recomend the "artist" district... We got lost on purpose... and we found it by chance :) We happened to find the best bakery in the world (I've been in more than 25 countries, I know what I'm talking about). From the outside it looked an old and creepy store, so none of my friends even thought of having a... More

I enjoy places like this. It is a restored old town that looks like a story book. There are many art galleries and museums. Nice restaurants, too.
