WE loved Plovdiv and walking the old town pedestrian ways with our 10, 6. and 2 year old girls. The archaeology and history was overflowing, the buildings were in good condition with numerous stores and restaurants to choose from, and the town has taken steps to rehab itself. IT deserves to be the capitol of culture.

So interesting. Many of the houses have been restored and are being used for museums furnished as they could have been originally. The old doctors house is now a gallery. There are lots of restaurants, souvenir shops and hotels which are housed in these buildings to. There is the old Roman ruins and theatre to view.

We stayed in Plovdiv for 3 nights and whilst there we spent plenty of time exploring the old town and can really say it is just amazing! Filled with cobble stone streets, and really unique buildings, you can literally spend hours there looking around and of course there is the wonderful Amphitheatre which is really worth visiting too. I loved... More

Plovdiv is the second largest city in Bulgaria after Sofia, but its old town resembles a village and is extremely picturesque. We recently strolled the old town's hilly cobblestone streets for more than two hours, initially wending our way to the top of Nebet Tepe (Prayer Hill), the city's highest point. Old Plovdiv goes back to 4000 B.C. and offers... More

It's small and quiet. Many picturesque, old buildings. I recommend visiting it in the morning or during the day because it gets more crowded towards the evening.

Plovdiv old town offers variety of antiques and monuments from ancient Philippoupolis mixed with modern architecture. The city prepares itself to became cultural capital of Europe in 2019, so most of the sites are currently being secured and renovated. While walking around, make sure that you will have comfortable shoes as you will definitely need them :)

Its very nice to "dip" yourself in the old town. Must visit if you are in town, spare at least 2 h so you can walk nice and easy all the paved uphill all the way to the top were once was a fortress on top of the 3rd hill of ancient Plovdiv.

What a lovely area for walking around, plenty of old buildings, windy little streets, museums, bars and restaurants, just go for a stroll and loose yourself in the winding streets
