I lost my heart to Plovdiv. The people are very kind, and you have a collection of medieval and Roman history mixed with kindness. I found the people much kinder, and more helpful, than Rome, and they were there to help me enjoy their town, not just rip me off. It's incredibly historical, but with all the benefits of modern... There is a simple reason that this is a UNESCO World Heritage Site - there are many houses, churches and assorted other structures to enjoy. Walk the hill going up and be sure to look out for small signed posted on several of the buildings (both in English and Bulgarian) that describe the structure. The amphitheater is fantastic and several... More

Whist there is much to see in the old town,we would recommend, due to the state of the cobble stones that one either walks or looks, do not execute both at the same time

The town has some decent old ruins, and some nice hilltop views of the surrounding region, but there isn't anything spectacular here that is a 'must see' or will give you that 'wow' moment you seek when traveling.

I live in The Netherlands and occasionally I bring friends to Bulgaria. Most of the time I bring them also to Plovdiv and especially the Old Town. Everybody is very impressed. The place has really preserved the atmosphere! I find it very peaceful and nice. The houses are very beautiful and well preserved!

Old churches and monasteries and other kind of old culture institutes, like the Ethnographic museum. The most impressive attraction is the ancient roman theater. It is not an easy tour! you supposed to climb on risky cobblestone streets . If you are not a goat, chances are that you will sprain your ankle. On top of the old city, an... More

This pedestrian only area, all stone and cobblestone streets( you need comfortable, sturdy shoes!)....Fascinating old churches, houses in painted in old Bulgarian style( with tops overhanging the streets...very unusual)....Full of galleries, restaurants, cafes and bars....Worth a climb up and thru to the main street area of town...Also pedestrian only, making Plovdiv one of the great walking towns I know!

I had a local guided tour of the old town which was really helpful otherwise I would have run the risk of just wandering over huge cobblestones and not taking anything in. It was a Monday when all the museums and shops are closed. I returned today to revisit specific points of interest. It's a lovely area full of restaurants,... More
