We went to Mljet from Dubrovnik harbour which cost around £25 for a return ferry. We were lucky and the weather was kind to us the day we went to this island (it was a bit touch and go for the week we were in Dubrovnik) and wow, we were not disappointed! It is a long journey, almost 2 hours,... More

Absolutely beautiful island - the national park is well worth a visit. We went on a day trip by ferry which was enough to cycle around the park (hire bikes for around £5 for the day, and though there are plenty of uphill parts, it is well worth the effort!) The scenery is superb and it is a great escape... More

Morning or evening, before or after the day trippers and cruise boat visitors, the area around the lakes is beautiful, peaceful and empty. During the days walks up to the hills, various view point, towards the coast are unbeatable, and you will hardly see a sole, except perhaps another lost and friendly walker. The park is so much more than... More

Take the boat from the main port. You have to get there about an hour before to get tickets. It goes at 8am some days and 9.15 others so you need to check. The trip takes about an hour and a half and you want to get off at the second stop on the island. There are places to hire... More

What a lovely place to swim. If you are confident and careful, leave the beach and find a secluded spot. Leave your bathing suit at home. There is so much privacy! Gorgeous turquoise warm salt water lakes. For swimming enthusiasts, it is a dream come true! Great cycling as well and lovely views of hills, forests and lakes. I will... More

We spent 3 nights in Polace on Mljet. We took the catamaran ferry from Dubrovnik, arriving at 11am. Polace is basically one street on the beach front with various restaurants, bakeries, mini markets, a cash machine , bars and accommodation premises. We stayed in the Apartment Radulj. It was an excellent choice with very friendly owners, extremely clean rooms and... More

While on a sail trip with Huck Finn, we stopped at Mijet Island for a mountain bike ride which was pretty challenging. We also swam in the two salt water lakes. Mjet is beautiful!

My boyfriend and I visited this island during a weeks stay in Dubrovnik. We caught the ferry over from Gruz harbour which was around 240 kunar for the both of us. The boat trip over was fine and took about 90 min. The only downside was the early start being an 8am ferry and having to get to the ticket... More

An hour and a half ferry ride from Dubrovnik to this national forest with a 12th century monastery on a little island. The monastery is small and not particularly inspiring, but the swimming nearby is in pristine waters. A lovely day if you have the time.

Marvelous island with the two beautiful lakes, both solty, and the smaller one (Maloe Jezero) is less deep, and is always much warmer than the sea of the second lake. There is a beach suitable for children too (again - it's not deep), but if you swim well and not afraid of +21C water - take a longer ride alond... More
