I would recommend early morning or evening…less people and less hot. Bring water, but if you forget there are a couple of bars up there too (a little pricey but its an option).

We really enjoyed our walk round the City Walls in Dubrovnik. It wasn't too busy when we went there, but it was very hot. Be warned that there are a lot of stairs and not much shade. You can buy drinks as you go round though (and there is a fountain near the Pile Gate entrance where you can fill... More

We were there on a stop with a cruise. We walked the walls. It is an easy walk with a little bit of climbing steps here and there, nothing that these two seniors couldn't accomplish. Have your camera handy and be prepared to take lots of photos. It is truly beautiful to see those red roofs and everything is so... More

The ancient walls of Dubrovinik are certainly pretty with great views of the city. However for £10 / 15 euro to get onto the walls I would have expected some leaflet/ brochure to explain the history of them even in brief detail, be that just a map of the walls.!! The walk itself was busy, allow 3/4 an hr at... More

Well worth the effort to get stunning views of the old town and surroundings. There are 3 small bars on the wall where you can get refreshments. Also a very nice small art gallery. A one-way system is in operation so you don't meet hordes of people coming the opposite way. It is best to walk the walls either early... More

You'll need a stout heart for Dubrovnik's ancient city walls for there is a lot of climbing, much of which is steep climbing. I encountered one woman who, on seeing more steps, broke down in tears and sobbed into her handbag, whimpering, "not more [expletive] stairs; I just can't handle it any more Jimmy." Jimmy, for his worth, found his... More

The reason I went to Dubrovnik was because Lord Byron really enjoyed it. He called it the Venice of Eastern Europe. When I first arrived I was really disappointed. It seemed as if all the old city cafe menus and restaurants were trying to act like VENICE! I had just come from Venice and so the city is NOTHING compared... More

Definitely the best way to see the Old Town. Even though the town was heaving, it was quiet up on the walls in mid-afternoon. Inevitably hot so bring water and be prepared to climb up and down stairs quite a lot. Saved quite a bit with child price and our daughter having her student card. The chap knew Nottingham Uni... On your first day in Dubrovnik, I highly recommend to start by touring the city walls. It's not so expensive and you get to see amazing, heart stopping views of this tiny medieval city. Plenty of photos to take here, the full walk took us around 3 hours, you can cancel at some spots. keep your tickets with you because... More
