No matter what time of day it was we found ourselves down by the harbour, it was interesting and beautifully kept. Lots of boats to swoon over, and I am not the biggest boat fan, but oh my god some people do have GREAT ones. We often went walking after dinner down by the water, Split is so clean and... More

So much space, bright and white, with views across the sea. Just right for evening walks and people watching.

Split harbour front promenade is a really gorgeous place. There are flowers, benches to sit and many cafés or restaurants to choose from and enjoy the world passing by. The harbour and the marina on one side and the old town with Diocletian Palace on the other side: you cannot miss this place.

Strolling along the Riva taking in the atmosphere ... Stalls, cafes, shops, street entertainers - great place to spend the evening

the harbour at Split is a busy ferry terminal as well as catering to a lot of tourist related traffic, so there is plenty to watch if you want tp pass some time. Diocletian's Palace is directly on the land side as the Palace was built to have sea access, and the streets of the town beyond the Palace also... More

Riva harbour .....Split, beautiful water, and background on one side and Diocletians Palace on landside, surrounded by tourist cafes and shops with some fabulous food to taste. Now as you take all this in, watch the raw sewerage pumping into that very same harbour. Not a good look for any town.............not good for Split.

Like most of the locals, I ended up walking along here in the evenings. It's pleasant during the daytime, but can sometimes be too hot if the temperatures are high. At night, small stalls open - selling Croatian style dumplings (which are cooked in front of you) and sugared almonds. I'd particularly recommend the stall which sells the freshly prepared... More

Two years ago I walked the Riva harbour many times. On my latest trip back to Split, I took advantage of a night walk along the area. While on the walk, my cousin pointed out plaques dedicated to Olympic athletes from Split. We took in each of them, trying to work out what sport they had competed in. This was... More

It was fun to watch locals and visitors alike parade up and down the Riva which is right by the water. It reminded me of the Italian passeggiata where people socialize outdoors before heading home. Italy is right across the water so I'm sure they share a lot of traditions.

If you like cafes, people and boat watching, you'll like the Riva. A real bonus is the outer wall of Diocletian's Palace to your back with the harbor to the front. Perhaps the most pleasant surprise was the reasonable costs when compared to Europe writ large and you aren't hassled by street vendors and someone trying to sell you a... More
