This island off of Split and surrounding small islands are amazing. However, i think tourism is showing it's toll, the clear blue water floats with trash from all the boats and yachts, and the island is plagued by young Brits and other Europeans coming to get wasted.

We went on impulse but found we only had an hour to catch the ferry back! The port area is lovely. It is possible to travel across to another port on the island and it looks like there are good walks. Not overcrowded so reasonable value

We went and stayed for 3 days. We stayed one night in Milna at a family run hotel - a bit far out but the rooms were fantastic and the food was very home made. Also stayed two nights at Hotel Adriana. Great hotel, very central, best breakfast ever but I think its a priced too highly.

on our visit to Croatia, we took a catamaran boat from Split to Hvar - 1 hour 5 min ride to Hvar. Buy tickets in advance on Jadrolinija.hr. You would need to stop by their office in harbor in Split to exchange your confirmation for an actual ticket. The ride is fast and convenient. Island Hvar has amazing beaches and... More

Probably the top island off Croatia Centered round Hvar town, which is buzzing; probably more for the young; the whole place has a permanent party atmosphere Nice architecture and loads of places to eat and drink Not excessively commercialised - yet; but more expensive than other places Ferry connections (Jadrolinija) are excellent, but booking needed in high season Few beaches,... We only had about 5 days in Croatia. 1day in Zagreb, 1 in plitvike lake, 1 in Dubrovnik. To be sure all had its own charms and you should visit them all. We ended our trip in Hvar. It was the best ending a trip could possibly be! I wish we had more days there. The view. The rustic charm.... More

Absolutely lovely harbor with a party atmosphere. If you are young and international, multi-culti then you will love the lively and bustling feel of Hvar harbor. Must go to the Spaniola fortress. Fabulous views from the old ramparts. Very reasonable prices compared to other Mediterranean ports.
