Nice Historical Background

I liked the way the port is described and shown as one of the first free trade zones in Europe. The port exemplifies the cosmopolitan nature of the city

Compared with world harbours like Antwerp or Rotterdam, it's little but beautiful. The most beautiful views you've from the shevchenko garden, that honers the naval people of Odessa and the black sea.

I live in San Francisco and we have a pathetic port. Odessa's port is so active with cargo ships unloading and the rail cars being loaded. The sounds of a busy port are very exciting. Odessa also has a large passenger terminal and a couple of marinas. What it need to do though is get rid of the big, ugly,... More

It was chilly when we walked onto the pier. Nice to be by the sea, but the chilly air dampened our enthusiasm to be there. I never did see any of the Ukrainian naval vessels in port.

To get there, the easiest is to walk down the Potemkin Stairs. Now what? A busy road to cross will take you to a double ramp that overlooks a busy shipping area. Tourist ferries are always coming through and people are on their way to something else. The Port of Odessa is not necessarily the actual place you visit, but... More

Entering a former part of the Soviet Union ?! They play music at you, have everything well-signed, and quite easy access to the Potemkin Steps and City.

Visit to the Port in usually a part of the your around the city centre, a very refreshing part. One can see many interesting places there, some monuments, some artifacts (e.g. a collection of anchors and some cannons) and just relax. It's actually heaven for kids. It's also interesting to observe life in the ships, both commercial and cruising ones.... More
