While you cannot go walking among containers and railway tracks you can get a nice view of the port area by going down the Potemkin Steps, crossing the road, and going to the cruise passenger terminal. There are a couple of little tourist shops that you will pass along the way if you need some little souvenirs (nesting dolls, T... More

Worth a visit. Go down Potemkin Steps and cross the road. Walk into the Port and have a look. There's an inexpensive souvenir shop upstairs. More interesting to walk out into the port area, towards the hotel, and look around at a huge deep water Soviet era port. A different world.

The Port was without boats, when I visited it. I arrived from Potemkin stairs, but there is one elevator for little money, that goes up and down. The port is large, with great quays, for very big boats for cruises, at the end there is Hotel Odessa, very high.

Depending on how your cruise ship docks, you can see the Potemkin Steps and Richelieu statue from the ship. There is a small mailbox inside the Terminal on the left hand side of the main level. To get across the street, there are several staircases including several underground passageways just to get to the Potemkin steps. We were surprised at... More

not much to see when you walk to there but a boat trip cost 80grhp per person our group of 3 had fun and the boat ride made it all worth while.

Monday, July 22, 2013 Pacific Princess docked close enough to walk into Odessa. Very close by we climbed the 192 Potemkin steps. On the way up the stairs, we encountered beautiful white birds; when we started to take a picture of the birds a lady put a bird on my wife's head; with that I took my wife's picture and... More

One highlight of a recent one-day stay in Odessa was a visit to the port, one of the outstanding smuggling locations in the world (and be sure to also visit the Museum of Contraband). You descend to the port down the amazing Potemkin Stairs made famous with a memorable (but fictionalized) battle scene in the movie Battleship Potemkin. When you... More

Odessa is a port so no visit is complete without a visit to this functioning historical harbor. For me it had family resonance since it is most likely that my grandparents emigrated to Argentina on a ship that left from Odessa.
