Less chaotic and crowded, and only one guy pestering me about a shoe-shine. It's a great place to just stop and watch: the schoolkids goofing and flirting around with each other, the people arriving for services or events in La Merced, the interesting traffic on Calle 1 (2 guys on bikes running their pitbulls like sled dogs!). La Merced has beautiful architecture and the plaza has a good variety of street food vendors. It is well worth a visit when in Antigua. More

Beautiful church and crazy carnival-style market place on Holy Thurs/Good Friday. We saw the 4 AM procession from here and were amazed at the level of activity in the wee hours. More
