Great place for a stroll. They have worked to block traffic away from the square and you can safely visit shops in the vicinity. Incredible cobblestone streets with charming shops on every corner. The square/park is laid out like most in Latin America with the large Catholic Church facing the park.

Everyone visits Antigua park where so much is going on. The Mayan Indigenas will try to sell you their wares; some even speak English! You can sit there and watch the world go by. At times you will get some musicians playing their music, at other times complete peace. You will thoroughly enjoy this park.

Central area of downtown. Crafters were set up in booths one day, so you can see local artists' work. A book tent was set up another day. Beautiful architecture around the park!

Antigua is a very popular, tourist friendly town, but I recall the Parque Central as feeling like its vendors cater more to the locals, and is a place where locals relax in the shade of some rather nice rows of trees.

We went to visit the plaza on a Friday night. It was so pleasant with more locals than tourists and a live band playing. Little children were running around and enjoying the beautiful fountain. Don't leave before the lights come on the cathedral

Those of you who have traveled much throughout Guate will know that (as in many other countries) the 'parque central,' bounded by a church, is usually the cultural, market, and political center of a town. In Antigua the the parque central has still retained at least two of those functions (the market happens elsewhere). It's beautiful and a great place... More

I was here on a Saturday night and it was hopping! They had a concert, shops open, food everywhere and it was a TON of fun. I would say this is a great place to wander around and check out (it's not very big) and there's probably much more going on Fridays and Saturdays than during the week.

This Is a lovely little park in the centre of Antigua where the locals hang out. A nice place to sit and tach Guatemalan life going on round you. If you look like a tourist you'll probably get asked if you want to buy local crafts, snacks etc but the people are lovely and not pushy and as soon as... More

The Parque Central is a thriving area of visit. Stop to listen to musicians, watch the street performers and enjoy the Spanish architecture.
