Knowing that we were going to MV, we knew that we had to visit Gay Head. It was a must see… We also knew that it was off-season so none of the shops will be open but that worked out in our favor. We had the whole area to ourselves. The view was awesome; the cliffs were simply picturesque to... More

it was a dark and stormy day and it was still wonderful! To be at the scene of Carly Simons famous concert on the 'yard was terrific. The area was well kept and free from rubbish etc.

You haven't "seen" the Cliffs until you've walked along the beach around the point. The walk along Moshups Beach (named after the Wamponag being who created the island) is truly breathtaking. The shapes of the cliffs are wonderful and the colors of the clay are astounding. The walk is easiest at low tide, so Google the tides and plan your... More

Colorful clay, the lighthouse and great views from the top of the cliff make this a must visit. As for swimming and sunning I prefer South Beach for the sand and the water temperature is warmer. There are loads of tourists at Gay Head aka Aquinnah Beach. We were hoping to be able to create paste with the clay as... More

No trip to the Island is complete without a ride out to Gay Head (now known as Aquinnah) to see the cliffs and the light house. The light house will soon be moved (next three years) as the land beneath is is eroding fast, so if you are going, make sure you see it in it's current location. You can... More

I was only in Martha's Vineyard for the weekend and the first day we were caught in Tropical Storm Andrea, But the second day was just marvelous! I tried to tour every area I could and couldn't stop taking pictures! My family called me the "Picture Ninja". I look forward to visiting again!

Went for a walk along the beach in mid-February. Lots of rocks of all sizes on the beach, lots of pretty shells and stones, saw a seal in the water, watched clay-tinged water ooze from the dunes onto the sand (please heed all warnings/notices about the dunes). A pleasant walk.

anchored off shore and swam ashore, painted ourselves in several colors of clay with chunks that fell off into the sea. Please do not accelerate erosion by taking clay still in the cliff.

Took the boat out from Woods Hole and motored around the Elizabeth islands and Gay Head. Highlight: a giant TUNA popped up next to the boat. Didi catch a blue fish off middle ground. The weather was typical for this time of the year: perfect!

A serene, beautiful spot to spend the day. It was the best part of our visit to Martha’s Vineyard. On our 1st trip to MV we used a tour bus which was great. But the next visit we drove ourselves here for the day. It was well worth the drive. It is a truly gorgeous place that we were able... More
