More Than Just a Library

This is such a great community resource from your standard fare of books, CD's, internet access but also offers lectures and a childrens program that is truely wonderful.

The Atheneum is a town treasure. The library is in an historic building, for one, including the Great Hall upstairs which is also a fine research facility. The staff is always accommodating and goes to great lengths to get a book, a CD, a movie, for you to enjoy.

This isn't just another library. It is a gathering place for the town, a place for speakers, presentations, exhibits etc. Of course, you can browse through the books & find all kinds of unique old volumes, with island history abounding. As libraries go, this is by far one of the coolest I've been to. Gorgeous architecture and located in the center of downtown Nantucket makes for a must stop when you are touring the sights. It's a nice escape from the bustle of the streets and worth your time to peruse the shelves.

This is a wicked cool library open to the public. It doesn't take long to tour and there are interesting painting, and other artwork and artifacts to view.

Enjoyed a quick stop at Atheneum on recent visit to Nantucket. Liked quaint atmosphere and scrimshaw exhibit in a quiet, working library.

Saw a great video as well as generally a wonderful venue. My wife & I love the island, & in fact plan on retiring to Nantucket. I think all interested parties should pay a visit to this wonderful venue.
