Beautiful spot with soaring limestone Karsks. Narrow path into the lake area is clogged with bodies on the weekends making it very hard to enjoy. Path runs 6 Km along the lake along the canyon. Minor elevation changes make it only moderately difficult when the paths are clear. If you come on a weekend; Forget about it. Best time to... More

This is such a pretty area and would be a great attraction if the locals put more effort in keeping it clean. I was so disappointed to see so much trash laying around. The water had trash as well. Aside the trash, the canyon trails are pretty and the views are spectacular. There is a nice restaurant where you can... More

A place where come together the natural beauty and historical monuments. Near Skopje, yet isolated, surrounded by high mountains. On the shore of the lake there is the monastery Andreas, from the fourteenth century, and the vicinity are Matka Monastery, and St. Nicholas Sisevski, to which reached by boat across the lake and adventurous rock climbing a curving forest paths.... So close to Skopje, Lake Matka lies beautifully between steep mountains, as if you were far away. You can visit the 14th century church, have a drink or meal at the picturesque lakeside restaurant, and can take a romantic boat trip to one of the caves. Nice!

Very popular place for the Nature Lovers. Nice Ethnic Restaurant with tasty Macedonian Food , beer or good choice of vine. Hotel where you can stay overnight with calming view at the Canyon and the Lake . Option to have a long walk beside the river or take a boat ride to the Cave or go for kayaking.

Perfect getaway from the urban jungle. Excellent place to relax, have cup of coffee or tea and enjoy in a nice lunch! The meals at the restaurant on the lake are a little bit expensive compared to the city, but it is worth the view!

Take bus no. 60 from Skopje, or rent a cab for €20 to take you to canyon Matka and back. The canyon can be explored by foot, or by going on one of the small boats that take you ip river to the cave that hosts the spring that feeds the reservoir. Fantastic opportunity for taking some good photos! There's... More

Matka lake is beautiful! We went on a rivercruice to see the lake and a cave. Breathtaking views! Our only regret is that we didn't spend a night at the hotel there and explored the hiking opportunities.

We went on the 0830 city bus and were one of the first ones on the river and the cave. It was nice to be out with no other boats or tourists. The water is beautiful and clear. The cave houses 2,000 bats that you can smell and hear before seeing. We had out boat drop us off at the... More
