Best of Skopje

The best place to avoid noise pollution of Skopje. Fresh orange juice at the Matka bar before leaving for the boat trip or kayaking is priceless!

It is a deep gorge and you can walk 6-7 km from start to finish, overlooking the river and the lake Matka. Beautiful nature and if you are not a fitness person, have a coffee (cappuccino, macchiato, they have everything) in the nice outside cafe near the St'Andreas church after the first 500 meters ;)

This stop was among the most interesting we had in Macedonia. Nice scenery, pleasant powerboat ride, good restaurants, a historic (not in use) monastery, good hiking, and known for its caves. A geologist would love to observe the rock formations!

Canyon Matka is a great destination which can only enrich your overall experience of Skopje. Despite the unappealing surrounding which you have to pass through once you get out of Skopje in order to get there, once you reach the aim, your whole perception changes as a beautiful sight awaits and embraces you. The peaceful lake with clear water provides... More

Very nice place for walking and seeing the beauty of the lake. Even this is not natural lake, the impression is very good. I really suggest this place that is just 20 minutes drive by bus from Skoplje.

Lake Matka is only a 40 minutes busride from the centre of Skopje and very easy to get to. From Skopje just hop on bus 60 to Matka and at the final stop you are there. Price for the bus is only 35 denars (approximately 0,5 euro). Go there to enjoy the calmness of nature and beautiful views!

Very nice, quiet place, although it is hard to find it is only 20 minutes driving from Skopje. There is 6 km long trail along the canyon, very good for hiking, but be but be careful, pathway no protective barrier! And definitely not go for hiking with young children. Nature is beautiful, restoranund facilities and small church near. Perfect one... More

The #60 bus left us, somewhere. Slightly confused we just followed the big orb lights which brought us to the dam and later the church and a hotel/restaurant. About a ten minute walk, uphill along the waterway. Very beautiful. We watched several national teams practicing wild kayaking for some major race. That was super cool. We also paid for an... More

Quite a bit of walk from the car park to the cafe and another 6 km of trail if you have time to hike. The lake, canyon, fresh mountain air make it an ideal place to chill out for a day.
