Take bus no. 60 from Skopje, or rent a cab for €20 to take you to canyon Matka and back. The canyon can be explored by foot, or by going on one of the small boats that take you ip river to the cave that hosts the spring that feeds the reservoir. Fantastic opportunity for taking some good photos! There's... More

Matka lake is beautiful! We went on a rivercruice to see the lake and a cave. Breathtaking views! Our only regret is that we didn't spend a night at the hotel there and explored the hiking opportunities.

We went on the 0830 city bus and were one of the first ones on the river and the cave. It was nice to be out with no other boats or tourists. The water is beautiful and clear. The cave houses 2,000 bats that you can smell and hear before seeing. We had out boat drop us off at the... More

We visited the Matka canyon as it hosted the canoe slalom european championships, the lake is artificial ,constructed to feed a hydroelectric plant, boat trips are available from the hotel or you can hire kayaks, definitely worth it. Dramatic scenery very beautiful & a welcome escape from the heat. Boat trips go to a cave at the far end of... More

We took the bus to the lake, which was really simple as the lake was the last stop. The bus also arrived and departed relatively frequently. The gorge is beautiful with green-blue water and really tall and steep cliffs. There are two ways to explore the gorge. There is a 6km (one way) path along one side of the gorge,... More

It was wonderfull to visit lake Matka or Matka Canyon. You can get there by bus or by car. The bus ticket is very cheap and goes about hourly. The view is great and the restaurant nearby was good food.

It is just a short trip outside of Skopje and worth the visit. Once you arrive at the monastery you can choose to walk along the path that follows the Treska River or take the boat ride up to the caves. The paths are narrow with a steep drop to the river. The hike can be an adventure. We had... More

I enjoyed seeing the canyon/lake matka, which isn't too far away from the city centre. The winding path along the edge is a good trek depending on your fitness levels. I recommend taking the boat ride to further explore the surroundings, particularly the caves. I couldn't believe there were bats flying about the place and seeing those stalagtites and stalagmites...
