We took the motor boats up the Matka river to the limestone caves, explored the caves, then were dropped off by the boat driver to scramble up the hill to the path to walk for 40 minutes back to the cafe/boat dock. The lake views are like 3 Rivers Gorge in China - serene, amazing, beautiful. The narrow path paralleling... More

Once you hike past the first kilometre, very few of the local people go any further, so the path gets much quieter & you don't have to stop for people taking selfies! When you get past about 6km in, the path gets a little less manicured & in parts there are no railings in some rather high risk areas...but great... More

35 denars for a 1hr bus ride. Lovely area, with a boat ride to some caves with 8000 bats! What a good value day out.

Beautiful nature, paradise for rock climbers and alpinists (just be careful of loose stones), Vrelo cave worth of visit. I disliked over commercialization from numerous restaurants who's water management is not solved and their dirty water seems like goes strait in to the lake.

20 friends from Stockholm went to Skopje for the Marathon, which was unfortunately cancelled the same morning. Went to Lake Matka instead and it was beautiful and very special. Some of the more eager runners even ran along the narrow cliff path. Had good food and drinks in the restaurant afterwards. We were so happy we got the opportunity to... More

I took a taxi to see this lake. It was nice, but certainly not Lake Lucerne! I liked watching some goats feeding by the lakeside. For me, it was a nice little drive, not much elsa.

This place is incredible, the scenery is truly stunning and I can definitely recommend coming here. However, there is a restaurant near the dam at the entrance to the canyon which gave me food poisoning. It was also massively overpriced. Their only redeeming quality was that the service was good, but on balance I would rather they had spent a... More
