A Wonderful Option When You Don't Want to Trek All the Way to the Mountains

With a good snowfall in Northeast Mass, I decided to head down to the Ward Reservation over the weekend to hopefully get in my first snowshoeing of the year. Upon my arrival, I found the trails were already very well broken in and the base layer was not thick enough to warrant my snowshoes. As a result, I enjoyed a... More

I like to hike, but can't always get away to the mountains. Holt Hill/Ward Reservation offers a close to home hike with a variety of trails. You can hike for 2 hours and not be on the same trail the whole time. I've been a few times this year and found new areas each time. I love hiking here, too,... More

There are many different trails ambling through this lovely reservation. They are well maintained and vary from easy to moderate. If you go on a clear day, you might catch a glimpse of Boston in the distance.

Lovely place to go for a walk with a beautiful view of the Boston skyline and surrounding areas. Like going back in time in New England. Small parking lot keeps it from getting too crowded. Took the trail to the top of the hill and it was an easy walk. Will definately come back and explore more of the trails.... More

We spent a beautiful fall afternoon walking around the res. The view from the top of Holt Hill was magnificent.

This place was fun the first time we walked there. We got a little lost at some points because the trails aren't always clearly marked. The Reservation isn't very big, so by the second time we had seen everything and got a little bored with it. The parking lot is small so carpool if you can. Fortunately there isn't dog... More

If you exercise regularly such as walking 4 days a week for at least an hour at a time then this would be an easy hike for you. Easy and safe hike to do solo. If portions of the red trail are closed because there are big machines on the property you might get turned around. But you can figure... More

The Ward Reservation and Holt Hill are a wonderful destination for family or adult walks. There is one steep paved access road that takes you to the summit of Holt Hill where there is a solstice stone set up and an amazing view of the Boston skyline (if the weather is clear). Other trails are well marked and follow former... More

Nice hike for the whole family. Visited as part of the bay circuit hike. The solstice near the fire tower gives an amazing view of the Boston city. Mostly wide trails and not too bushy so very suitable for kids.

I found this hike online and loved it! Very easy trail, it took about an hour! The top of Holt hill has a sundial and great view of the Boston skyline!! Don't miss the bog trail, not very long but very peaceful. It consists of a boardwalk that ends in a pretty pond! One of the hills (Boston) was closed... More
